Mystery from the sewers

Rufus and the rest of his friends walked in the capital in the ruined nobles' district where few people had yet moved to. They followed Rufus as to he had found a perfect home for all of them after they would give the palace to be made into an academy.

"Most of these houses are completely ruined. The roofs have caved, walls have fallen and most are completely unliveable," Edward said looking at all the buildings.

"Don't stress it. I found a house just perfect for us here just a few days ago," Rufus ensured.

They stopped in front of the only house that wasn't completely destroyed. It was a large house with three stories with the windows covered in ash.

They opened the door and it fell with a dust cloud rising after it slammed on the floor. Rats ran outside and the entire place was covered in a thick layer of dirt.

"Yeah…uhmmm...Can we vote again?" Yosef asked sarcastically.

"C'moon guys. This place is still standing and is just a bit dusty and has some burn marks," Rufus said with a positive smile.

"I think a homeless man is sleeping in the corner," Edward said and looked around the first room.

They started to walk around the burnt building. They took the stairs and looked at all the rooms.

"Yeah….this looks horrible," Amala said noting the condition of the house.

"It's not that bad, to be honest," Haley said looking around.

All of them looked confused at Haley.

"What? It's basically like the place where I and Rufus grew up," Haley noted.

Rufus was hoping everyone would be happy about the new home he had found for them. As they sighed they decided they should do this for Rufus as it was important to him.

A new home for Rufus and for the rest of them was found.

The winter was over and spring was around the corner. People in the Fairfax home were waking up early in the morning.

The house was fully decorated and renovated. It looked again like a fine house with all the comforts of a modern house.

Every person had their room personally decorated. Pema had a large jacuzzi inside his room. Joan had brought all her different armor to her room. Yosef had all kinds of tools with a table where he could tinker with his dolls and other stuff.

A true family home for everyone.

Days had gone quietly. The kingdom was on the rise with the old palace slowly being renovated into a proper school.

No students were yet enrolled, but the word spread. People were first confused, but slowly more people came out and enforming and showcased their divinities. Large sways of people had stayed quiet about their powers fearing what the nobles would do to them. Now they had nothing to fear and were encouraged to come out.

Not long after Rufus, Haley and Doreen had been called to inspect some peculiar findings. The discovery was found in the sewer tunnels of the capital deep under the ground.

The workers who had found it guided the three of them to a hole in the wall. Something had blasted through the wall like a small explosion. On the other side was a hidden room.

As they entered the room they saw a small altar at the center and hieroglyphs on the walls. The one thing that was the most shocking was the crystals that were spread out all over the room. Same kind of crystals that Haley formed when using her divine power.

"What the hell is this?" Haley said.

"The construction worker said that these sewers hadn't been serviced for at least twenty years. They said also that the wall had crashed long before they came down here. Whatever was here had been taken away many years ago.

"But whatever was here had been here for a long time. These sewers are probably as old as the kingdom and were built during the time of the founding kings," Doreen explained.

"So, it must be around 800 years old," Rufus said.

Haley went to pick one of the crystals. Unlike her own, these crystals didn't vanish.

She sensed divinity coming from them. It was somehow familiar to her. It felt warm and nurturing.

"Whatever was here, it was meant to stay here. These hieroglyphs and carvings are meant to lock divinity in them and to work as a dungeon. Never seen divine texts this precise and detailed. Whoever made these had unparalleled skills. Seems like some earthquake or other outside force, cracking the wall from the outside breaking the divine text. The seal then was broken releasing whatever was here?" Doreen said after inspecting for a while.

"You mean something was in here?"

"Yeah, but whatever was here it has gone somewhere else."
