Battle of fire, ice and monsters part 1

"Is everything ready?" Rufus asked on top of a hill that had a good view of the enemy army.

"Yes, they are in place now. When the enemy comes, we will be ready. They won't know what hit them," Yosef explained.

"Are you sure this will work?" Doreen asked.

"Why wouldn't it. We have them so we should use them on such an occasion. Saves many of our soldiers," Yosef said.

"Where did you exactly learn how to use them?" Rufus asked.

"Well, I was a slave for the dokkaebi. Worked at the factory where they made them. Learned how to use them also. They are truly magnificent tools if used properly. Almost made me look up to those little sick slave-owning bastards.

"Many of those little sick bastards were pleased with my work so I got privileged positions in the slave system of the dokkaebi. You could say I was a top-shelf slave," Yosef said sarcastically.

"My king. The enemy is in place," Erik rode on his horse and reported.

"Would you like to have the honor, Rufus?" Doreen asked.

Rufus nodded.

"FIRE THE CANNONS!"

Explosions were heard by the soldiers or the nation of Sparv. The army stopped marching and started to look around for any possible enemy movements.

"Should we prepare for an ambush, Anezka?" Queen Sasha asked.

"Our cavalry have not reported any enemy movements on our flanks. I don't know what that was but we should be fine. Even in this dense forest, it should be hard for them to ambush us," she reassured.

The woman was Anezka Novak, the marshal of the nation of Sparv. Even though Sasha was the leader of the army she was smart enough to ask advice from the most senior and most powerful woman of her nation.

Anezka had seen many wars and battles with scars to prove it. She commanded with an impressive aura and just like Rikard Plangent, was not afraid to use intimidation as a motivation. She indeed had previously had a heated rivalry with Rikard Plangent with both being the fiercest warriors and generals of their respective countries.

She was by no means an enemy to be taken lightly.

Everyone started to hear a high-pitched whistling coming from the sky. All the soldiers looked up trying to know where the voice was coming from.

None of the soldiers panicked, but small paranoia of the unknown was visible.

The whistling sound coming from the sky got louder constantly and at a higher pitch.

The whistling stopped.

"We should keep moving forward. The faster we are out of these woods the be..."

"BOOOOOOOOOM!"

The shells of the cannon fire hit the army blasting and killing tens to hundreds of soldiers all at once. As one shell hit the earth it exploded causing huge devastation and flames either obliterating or badly burning their targets.

The horses started to panic and the soldiers started to take defensive formations thinking their meager shields could defend them.

"What the hell is going on?!" Sasha yelled seeing his army being blasted away.

"We are being shot by cannons!" Anezka yelled.

"Where the hell did they get cannons!"

"That doesn't matter. We need to get out of here now!"

The army started to run forward in an unorganized manner. They rushed out thinking it would be the best chance for their survival, but that was not to be. Around every five seconds, a cannon shell hit the ground making it feel it was raining death. There was nowhere for them to hide.

The soldiers didn't know where to escape the barrage. Some nobles were able to shield themselves using their special divine powers. As the soldiers became more hysterical they tried clinging on to the nobles hoping they would also be saved if they stayed close. One noble lost control of his divinity and was unable to protect himself when a shell hit him and the soldiers directly.

Anezka rode with the queen with the queen's personal nobles shielding them both from the cannon fire. They left the iron cage behind that was still intact with the creature inside yelling loudly.

"We need to find and destroy those cannons!" Anezka yelled trying to gather cavalry to search and destroy the artillery.

After around ten minutes of hard shelling, the attack seized. Thousands of soldiers had died, but many were still alive.

"Why did they stop?" Sasha asked.

Soon the earth started to rumble like a landslide was coming at them. Loud war cries were heard coming from the forest right at them. The disorganized soldiers tried to glare into the distance where the tremors were coming from.

The snow on top of the trees fell as the rumbling of the earth became harder and harder.

Anezka and the queen looked in disbelief at what was coming at them. Thousands of black yak cavalry ridden by grey skin warriors.
