Battle of flames and walking corpses part 3

Rufus with his cavalry kept riding. It looked like they had almost gone away from the entire battle and were retreating, but still, the cataphract cavalry of the empire shadowed them.

Rufus looked back and saw that the infantries had clashed. He commanded his black yak and horse cavalry to pick up the pace. Along with their riders, lightly armored grey skin warriors ran beside them, concealed by the cavalry.

Samanilde's led cavalry also picked up their pace, not letting them get away from their sight.

As the alliance army tried to push back the varangians, soldiers of the empire dressed in thick leather armor that covered everything, were getting closer to the frontline. They carried iron and clay cylinders that looked like they weighed a lot. These soldiers obviously looked like they were some kind of specialists, but what.

As the varangians gave ground and space to the specialists, the alliance soldiers charged at the backing soldiers. The imperial specialists holding the cylinders unleashed fire from their mysterious weapons. These were flamethrowers, a brand new invention by the imperial alchemist.

It used a chemical liquid that was incredibly flammable, that was pushed forward. It was then lit ablaze causing a spray of fire that had a range of at least twenty meters. This showcased that the empire not only relied on brilliant battle tactics and strong divine personnel but also genius inventions, yet unheard of in the Aesis world.

Many soldiers burned to death, but they were the lucky ones. The unlucky ones got their armor melted onto their skin or those with thick plate armor literally cooked inside their protection.

As one specialist was using its cylinder flamethrower, he suddenly got cut down by blades made from diamonds. Ximena and her mercenaries rushed through the opening she created, getting a chance to negate the destruction the flamethrowers had done. More and more different mercenary bands joined the diamond conquistadores and were killing hundreds on hundreds of varangians. Guiscard mercenaries, Harldrar husclars with shields and axes, exiled hollow tree knights from the nation of Elva and even a couple of elven warriors with divinity were just some of the examples.

These mercenaries proved to be fierce fighters who with just gold as their single motivation, were besting the varangians. As Ximena was leading her mercenaries and cutting down the imperials, a woman with sword-like claws rushed at her. It was Mona who was leading the black company against the mercenaries.

Ximena blocked all attacks at her, but Mona was way faster and stronger. Her nails extended to the same length as spears and cut off one of the arms of Ximena who fell on the ground.

She started to whimper and drag herself away. Her mercenaries tried to retrieve their wounded leader, but the ruthless black company soldiers killed anyone daring to come between Mona and her prey.

"No, no, no, NO. I will prove myself. I will prove myself as my father did. I will not die. I don't want to die," Ximena cried to herself as she was crawling pitifully away with Mona walking slowly toward her.

Count Hunyadi rode next to Rufus.

"We must do our move now. The alliance army will not survive for long against the varangians," Hunyadi advised.

Rufus then looked ahead at the cataphract cavalry that was shadowing them on the other side of the battlefield. He saw that they had been baited enough.

"Cavalry! With me, NOW!" Rufus yelled and turned around with his black yak.

At that time the horse cavalry turned around and was aiming at the center of the imperial army. Rufus, Edward and Hunyadi rode towards Berig, and were deliberately avoiding Samanilde and the cataphracts.

Samanilde looked confused as to where the royal cavalry was riding to. She felt angry and was about to go and chase them but the saw a dust cloud coming at her and her cavalry. It was the grey skin black yaks charging at them with lightly armored warriors on foot rushing at them as well.

Samanilde had to fight first the black yaks before they could engage Rufus. The cataphract cavalry charged at the black yaks which was like a hammer hitting an anvil. These two excellent heavy shock cavalries charged at full speed with riders falling off their beasts on both sides.

Samanilde used her divine power trying to win the engagement as fast as possible. She heard a loud yell and saw a grey skin riding with skill and striking down the imperial riders with a large glaive. It was Namri and he then immediately turned around to charge at Samanilde.

"GLORY TO THE BLACK YAK RIDERS!" Namri yelled with a loud smile.

Samanilde with ease with her fire spiral forced Namri's black yak to fall down. She then rode over to try and finish him off but was saved at the last moment.

As she was forming a fire lance that was spiraling in her hand, her attack was stopped when a large sword blocked it

"Don't get ahead of yourself. That loudmouth is not our leader….I AM!" Joan told.
