Big Debut

"We've got a report coming in about a robbery at a gas station over at _____. There are two suspects, one of which is reportedly holding the cashier at gunpoint. Sending out the closest car, which is three minutes away." The dispatcher says over the police radio.

The address I hear is already close to me, it would take less than half a minute to get there, much faster than the police. The buildings in Manhattan are also much taller than in Queens, theoretically making web-slinging easier for me.

I jump off the roof and start moving. I'm much faster than the first time I tried web-slinging as with my increased level in the skill and higher strength, I no longer have to hold on with both hands to not fall.

The people below me on the streets certainly seem impressed as many stop to take pictures, some are even stopping their cars in the middle of the road to get out and look at me. Just please make sure not to cause an accident, I'm sure Jameson would love to blame that on me, label me as a distraction for the drivers of New York.

I reach the gas station shortly and see two people with black ski masks over their heads inside the store. One is controlling the customers on the ground while the other has the cashier at gunpoint as she is putting money from the cash register into a plastic bag.

Despite my increased stats and spider-sense level from my day of training with Jack, I have no confidence in dodging a bullet, at least in close range. I would much prefer taking them out without them being able to shoot me.

It looks like the two have yet to see me, so instead of barging in and risking the lives of the people inside as well as my own, I decide to wait outside on the roof of the store for them to make an escape attempt and then bounce on them.

They were already nearly done with their heist by the time anyway, so I only had to wait a few seconds for the two to run out of the store. I was right to come here, by the time the police arrived, the two would be long gone.

I focus on the guy with the gun first as he still has it in his hand, ready to shoot someone at a moment's notice.

As I have the high ground on him as well as being able to sneak attack from behind, I shoot webs from both of my hands on the ground in front of him and pull myself forward. He notices the webs appear from nowhere and turns around only to be met with the sole of my foot in his face knocking him out instantly.

His friend abandons him without hesitation, turning and running in a different direction. I shoot a web at his feet, stopping him in his tracks as he falls down. He tries to push himself up, but I shoot two more webs at both of his hands, firmly attaching him to the pavement.

[Gained 2 experience]

These guys really weren't anything special, only netting me one experience point each. I pick up the gun and the bag of money, bringing them inside to the cashier, who thanks me for the help.

Leaving the store, I noticed one of the customers previously on the ground had his phone out and pointed at me. Presumably, he had filmed the whole ordeal. I give the camera a wave before webbing away, disappearing as quickly as I appeared.

A few minutes later, on the police radio, I hear an officer reporting that he arrived at the gas station only to find the two criminals stuck to the ground and the money safe.

Upon questioning the people, he was told about Spiderman coming over to defeat the perpetrators before disappearing. Reporting that the dispatcher only scoffed, saying that Spiderman isn't even real.

I spent the next few hours swinging over the entirety of Manhattan several times over, visiting the surrounding lands part of New York City as well. I got the chance to do some sightseeing, visiting the likes of the Empire State Building, Baxter Building, and Stark Tower, which would in the future become Avengers Tower.

Seeing these places in person is a lot different from seeing them in Peter's memories. Inwardly I was fanboying hard.

Another somewhat famous place I swung over today was the New York Sanctum. I hadn't expected to see much there, but to my surprise, a bald woman who I recognized as the Ancient One was on the roof watering plants. As if just seeing her wasn't nerve-racking enough, as I got close, she actually stopped her activities and looked at me and waved.

I had the feeling she wanted me to come over and chat with her, but I am a very busy person, you know, not just anyone gets to chat with me. Me escaping as fast as I could definitely had nothing to do with me being scared of her.

Why would I be scared of her, you ask? Well, she has the power to kill me with no effort, plus she seems pretty serious about protecting earth from any possible threats, and I have no idea if she thinks of me as a threat.

Wait, now thinking about it, if she really meant harm to me, couldn't she find me herself easily enough? Maybe I should just stop by the next time I'm in the area before she decides to come find me herself.

During the past few hours, I had stumbled upon numerous robberies, muggings, and gang fights. The criminals I took out were oftentimes affiliated with Kingpin, some of the numerous Maggia families, or other smaller gangs.

Taking them all out had given me a bunch of experience, enough to increase my level six times. The whole day has also been quite a workout netting me some points from training. My status now looks like this.

My stats are starting to look quite nice, the numbers are getting up there, and I can feel it in my body. Compared to the 10 strength I started with, I now have 40, meaning I am at least four times stronger, but to be honest, I think the effect is more than that.

The experience needed for leveling up had increased quite a bit as I leveled, but my intelligence is making up for it so far.

I am about to call it a day and go back home, but as I jump into an alleyway to take off the mask and put on my regular clothes, I hear a police report that makes me change my mind.
