Unfair Fight

Roughly an hour after having split off from everyone and heading out on my patrol of the city, I once again find myself back at the school, this time sitting on the edge of the roof eating a pepperoni pizza that I bought from the place Kurt, Kitty and Rogue had introduced to me some weeks ago.

The patrol itself was uneventful, to say the least. Two full sweeps of the city went by at record speeds as I only ran into a few muggings, a gas station robbery, and one mediocre bank heist that would have failed even without my intervention.

In conclusion, an unusually quiet day in New York today. Not even a single superpowered individual to be seen anywhere, just some boring old ordinary knives and guns.

Truly I have brought a great era of peace and security to this city.

Yeah, probably just wishful thinking on my part.

Remembering what Felicia told me about the criminal underworld being in the middle of reorganizing itself as villains are breaking away from Kingpin's control and establishing their own groups and gangs, it will only be a brief moment of calm before the storm.

"I should enjoy it while it lasts," I mumble to myself while wiping my hands clean after finishing the last piece in the box, but as the crumbs fall to the ground, I notice them start vibrating slightly as they bob up and down.

"The hell? An earthquake?" I feel the ground shaking slightly, but it's really faint and doesn't feel like anything serious. In fact, the people out on the streets are going about their day, not even noticing anything wrong.

Wondering what is causing the shaking, I turn around just in time to see a thick pillar of flames rise high into the sky. It originates from the stadium at the back of the school.

I guess the peaceful time didn't last for long. I spent all that time out in the city looking for villains when I could have just sat still and waited for them to come to me!

Running across the roof to the other side and peering over the edge to get a better idea of what is happening, I recognize some familiar faces.

Rogue, who allegedly had plans to meet with some friends today, was currently being surrounded by three men. All of them are looking ready for a fight. Two of them I already knew, Pyro and Avalanche, members of the Brotherhood of Mutants who also study in this school. Their levels are low, and they are most likely not a significant threat to me as long as I look out for their unique powers. The last of the three is someone I have yet to meet, but a quick observe lets me know who he is.

------------------------------

[Name - Victor Creed (Sabertooth)]

[Level - 99] [Elite (All stats x2)]

The three members slowly enclose in on Rogue, who has removed her gloves and thrown them on the ground while slowly backing away from the attackers. Avalanche and Pyro are approaching from the sides, with the latter of the two having an open lighter in his hand while Sabertooth, with a cocky grin on his face, is casually advancing head-on.

I have no clue why the Brotherhood of Mutants are after her or why Rogue is even here, but I get the feeling that if I don't intervene, this probably won't end well for her. She might have one of the strongest mutant powers, but going one against three, especially when Sabertooth is involved, would be a death sentence.

Without thinking any further, I leap over the edge toward the ground. During the short time, I am still in the air, I quickly shoot out a web aiming at the lighter in Pyro's hand and pull it away from him. Since his power only allows him to control flames and not create them, he will be useless without this.

Briefly glancing my eyes over the other two members, I see that Avalanche has not even noticed me yet as he still has his sight on Rogue. In contrast, Sabertooth's eyes are already locked onto me like a wolf eyeing its prey.

With the lighter in hand, I land right beside Rogue, much to the girl's shock. "Sup"

In reaction to my greeting, the Brotherhood members come to a standstill and appear a little more on guard than before; meanwhile, Rogue, perhaps due to being on edge because of the current scenario, is the first to act by reaching out and touching my arm.

Sure I could have dodged her, but I have my costume on, so she can't do much to me, and I'd much rather have her know I'm on her side by not making sudden movements against her.

"Another mutant? Xavier acted faster than we thought." Sabertooth, who still appears mostly relaxed, crosses his arms. With his large frame, he appears very intimidating when standing there menacingly like that.

"Hey, I'm no Mutant! Not that being a mutant is bad or anything, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against mutants… or meta-humans if that's what you would prefer to be called. Just know that I'm normal- wait, I didn't mean that mutants aren't normal or anything like that. You know what I mean, right?" I cut my rambling short with a brief cough. I just wanted to make it clear to everyone I'm not a mutant to not have Magneto and Xavier trying to recruit or kill me. I really don't need that in my life right now. "Anyways… three against one looked more like bullying than a fair fight to me, so I thought I'd come join in on the fun."

"On my side, right?" I hear Rogue ask as she lets go of my arm.

"Isn't that obvious?" I look over at her.

Avalanche, who has been quietly observing until now, chuckles, "Well, we still outnumber you."

"You're right. Let's fix that." I cast Chains of Restraint, pouring 3000 mana into the spell to make them not break easily. For defensive purposes, I also cast a Magic Shield on myself, draining yet another 1000 mana leaving me with only roughly 2000. The maximum mana I can currently have is starting to look more and more insufficient.

Before Avalanche is even able to move an inch, chains burst out all around him and tie him up tightly. I manipulate the chains to make him hover in the air and bring him over to us just in case Rogue wants to borrow his powers. Moving the chains after use is one of the first things the Ancient One taught me during our training. Avalanche tries to struggle and break the chains holding him but to no avail.

"Now it's fair," I say, knowing full well it's not even close to fair. Even if Pyro is useless because of me taking his lighter, Sabertooth is still much stronger than me and Rogue combined.

"Um... you're not attacking?" I ask Sabertooth, who is still standing unmoving despite his teammate just being defeated in front of him.

"I was just figuring out what your mutant powers were." He says.

"Didn't I tell you I'm not a muta- whoa!" I wasn't given a chance to finish my sentence before Sabertooth suddenly extended the claws from his fingers and bolted toward me.
