Accepting the Contract

'Even at the cost of your soul?'

Hearing this Jayce started to have flashbacks, from when his sister was just a baby to when he became friends with Ryan.

It filled him with happiness until he remembered the current situation, a monster showing up at his home, massacring his only family.

Hate started to build up as relived it over and over and over and over again. Watching the beast feed on his sister, Ryan's head falling from his body, the pain of his legs getting sliced off and his arms being eaten.

The fear of losing his life to the sorrow of losing his loved ones.

'Maybe the problem isn't me, maybe the problem is this world. What if this happens again and I'm not strong enough? If I become stronger, will I never lose anyone again? No not if, I will get stronger, and kill anyone who gets in my way!'

Without knowing, Jayce had changed mentally, not knowing if it was for better or for worse for the world.

As if sensing Jayce's resolve, the world started to slow down and turn gray until it stopped completely.

Jayce couldn't feel any of his senses, as he wasn't able to see an oval made of flames appear next to him.

A man stepped out of the portal and walked over to where Jayce's limbless body was on the brink of death.

The man was in his 60s, wearing a suit and tie; had short black hair that was slicked back with a short boxed beard. If Jayce was able to see him he would have thought that he looked like a butler.

With no time to waste the man knelt to Jayce, setting down the briefcase at his side. Lifting his fingers he pressed them against the middle of the boy's forehead.

Color returned to Jayce as he heard a voice that reminded him of the man he had forgotten long ago, his father with his kind and soothing voice.

"You don't have much time so I'll make this quick, are you willing to sell your soul to me? If you do, you will gain power strong enough to make the world bend to your knees.

"But, when you die your soul will become mine. All I need is for you to say yes, do you accept the contract. "

"..." Jayce struggled to answer the man with his body in a complete wreck, it was a miracle that he was even still alive.

Even though he couldn't hear anything he was able to hear the words of the man as if it was getting uploaded straight to his brain.

He even thought that he was deluding himself, but if there was a chance he wasn't going crazy, no matter how small, he had to take it.

Mustering up the last of the energy his dying body carried, Jayce responded to the man.

"y..."

"y..e...s"

As soon as the old man heard the acknowledgment he turned to the suitcase to his side. He laid it down and clicked it open to reveal a white glove next to a small red orb that was resonating power.

Putting the glove on he grabbed the red orb and ripped off Jayce's shirt with his other hand.

Pushing the orb to where Jayce's heart was located, the orb sank into his chest, all the way down to the middle of his heart.

As soon as it reached its destination it started to branch out from the heart, reaching everywhere it can within the body.

The pain of the orb invading every single cell within his body was excruciating, but the thought of revenge kept him conscious.

While Jayce was dealing with the pain, messages appeared in front of him but was unable to see them as he was still blind.

After 10 minutes of agonizing pain, it stopped and with it, a message appeared, the orb inside the boy's body finished spreading through his body as the message appeared.

"Request accepted." The old man responded. 'It seems my job here is done.'

The old man closed and picked up his suitcase. A portal opened up in front of him, taking a step in he stopped to glance back at Jayce.

'I hope you don't disappoint me, demon king candidate.' Completing his thought he fully entered the portal, closing it behind him.

The orb started to send branches out toward Jayce's eyes, ears, nose, skin, and what was left of his arms and legs.

[Reparing...]

Jayce's sight, smell, touch, and hearing started to return. Opening his eyes and looking around he could see the world paused in time.

Glancing back in front of him he saw a message appear in front of him once again.

Red threads started to flow out of his body from where his limbs were removed. Thousands upon thousands of threads combined, slowly reforming his limbs.

As parts of his limbs were created by the threads, messages popped up confirming their completion.

Jayce's new limbs had dark red rough skin, and an incredibly sharp metal-like substance that was dark grey replaced his fingernails.

The metal went from his fingers to his shoulder. The same could be said about his legs as they were identical to his arms.

While observing his new limbs, time started to resume with a system notification appearing.
