Chapter Eigthy One

It was "Take your girlfriend to work" day.

Nah, Chase just wanted to show her his workplace. It was summer break, and for a teacher who refuses to give summer classes to struggling students, that meant a lot of free time.

Lia doesn't know what drove the man to want her to get out of their apartment, but she guesses the unkempt hair, the dead stare, and the vacant smile she started greeting him with had to do with it.

"Again... why are we doing this?" she asked him as they approached his workplace. He had somehow convinced her to spend the workday with him, but she was still nervous and hesitant.

"I told you, my work buddy is out sick today, and I could use an assistant," Chase said, looking more chipper than usual that morning, and he is always chipper.

You should know that the reason the man cited was total crap, of course. She is no assistant material; her electrical knowledge extends to changing light bulbs, and he knows that.
