Chapter 12 The Makings for Tragedy

Throwing down a smoke bomb containing chemicals, to block the senses of supernatural beings.

The man would cough.

He stands up, scanning the area,

Taking out the daggers inside of his limbs.

I follow Eric to the roof while holding Catherine.

We both breathe heavily.

Eric lays Catherine down.

Eric walks towards the edge to observe the scene further.

He crouches so he won't be seen.

I watched over Catherine's unconscious body.

Looking for wounds, but there were none.

"We weren't going to win against them, Faron. That man is a pure brute, despite his pain. He kept on fighting."

Eric said.

"He was clearly different from the rest, while he didn't have a definitive fighting style. If Catherine didn't rush him head on so soon. We would've killed him, right there on the spot."

I said.

"You're right Faron, but what's done is done."

Eric said.

"Now we can't hunt down Jericho. Not like this, we are being hunted by hunters. Those beastmen who are hell bent on revenge. They will try to sniff every corner in Ciphia to find us if they have too. While Catherine is injured."

I said.

"This is your fault, Faron. If only you had killed Max sooner. Catherine wouldn't have made that mistake. She was too cocky, today."

Eric said, sighing.

"Shhh keep it down, we are going to get caught, we need to move now."

I said to Eric.

"Fine, I'll figure out where they're going so I can plan a safe route."

Eric said, as he turned around to watch over them once more.

"We can't take the bikes there to investigate this area. We are going to have to use the emergency teleportation spell."

Eric said, grabbing the device.

It's a small stone circle with an ark written on it.

The ark is a bright blue circle with a dot emitting a ton of energy.

Arks are symbols that represent certain spells, curses, or enchantments.

People sometimes use Arks to cast spells.

Individuals who can cast spells without them are considered scholars or mutants.

Meaning, scholars just know how to do it.

But some people are just imbued with magic; they are just purely powerful.

"It's time to report back that Jericho is lost."

Eric said.

"You killed Max, we only got one of them today."

I said, looking at Catherine's unconscious body.

"Now, the mission is done, we need to go."

Eric said.

Eric picks up Catherine.

Cradling her like a baby.

Eric drops the device.

Stepping onto it.

Blinded by a bright blue light covered in black and red sparks of energy.

Teleporting all three of us simultaneously.

Energy flows around us, vanishing in the air.

The Ark disappears from the small stone.

"We are back at headquarters, Faron."

Eric said, guards approach us with their firearms.

"Report."

One of the guards said.

"I'll report Thorne directly, it's an urgent matter."

Eric said as he showed his badge.

Revealing his rank, they both nod.

"But my partner here needs medical care asap."

Eric said.

The guard grabs his radio, calling for a medic.

"They will meet us halfway. Let us escort you sir."

One of the guards said.

"We need to hurry. Thorne will be waiting."

Eric said.

We all walked around the headquarters, to reach the medical area.

Two nurses met us halfway there with a stretcher.

Eric places Catherine on a stretcher.

"Watch over her, I'll be back, Faron."

Eric said, I nodded.

I followed the nurses.

Eric went the other way.

I watched them take Catherine to a warm bed.

Laying her down gently.

Next to Catherine is a big stone.

In the middle is a gem that glows red covered in ark.

The design is sophisticated.

I can't make them out there for me to scribble.

The ark flashes at me when I try to read.

It radiates dark energy glowing red.

It must be tethered to Thorne.

This is a special room for Catherine specifically.

They tend to Catherine.

"May you leave the room, please sir, we need to treat her."

The nurse said, while the other tended to Catherine.

"When can I be next to her?"

I asked.

"Whenever her treatment is complete."

The nurse said.

They begin to gossip, as I take a seat outside.

"Does she even have any wounds?"

One of the nurses said.

After sitting down.

I began contemplating.

What will Thorne do to us?

We promised her, we wouldn't fail her this time around.

I scratch my head, getting anxious.

Hearing the door open, I looked to the left.

"She's going to be okay, she just has a minor concussion. Although I don't see any visible wounds, just bloodstains."

The nurse said.

The other nurse followed her out of the room and followed me with a smile.

Nodding I stood up and walked into Catherine's room.

'Taking a chair up to her bed.

Leaning back in the chair, I fell asleep.

Waking up someone's touch.

"How long were you here?"

Catherine asked, sitting up outside of her bed.

"I don't know why I fell asleep. But you woke up faster than I thought. The nurses said you should be fine. You only came down with a concussion, but even that doesn't seem real right now. You shouldn't even be awake."

I said, stretching as I yawned.

"It's because of my mother's magic."

Catherine said, pointing to the stone.

"We failed, didn't we?"

Catherine asks.

"We didn't exactly fail Catherine. We just didn't live up to your mother's expectations, so if you consider that failure then yes we did."

I said.

A guard walked into the room.

"Thorne summons you, Faron, now."

The guard said.

I turned around to see more guards.

"Yes, it's time you went. Your appearance is requested by the Queen herself."

A man said he sounds different from the other guards.

The man steps out from the crowd of guards, revealing himself.

He wears a red cloak, he's very short and stocky.

"Come now child, Queen Raiden waits."

The man said.
