Chapter 40 The Revolt

Nathan covers his face as the sunlight shines on him.

"We are having some good weather today."

The kids chuckle as they play in the snow.

One of the kids threw a snowball.

Hitting Nathan directly in the face.

They gasped as they stared at him.

One of the children approaches Nathan.

They cross the road safely.

"Sorry, old man."

The little girl said.

Nathan puts on his hood.

Ignoring her, I waved her goodbye with a smile.

"What's the point of trying to lure them out? If you're covering your face."

I said.

"Don't worry Alder, they will recognize me, especially when you are walking around with that amulet."

Nathan said.

It's been two days since Nathan recovered.

I've had to take responsibility for his well-being so far.

We walked inside the café, it was crowded with people.

"It's warm inside, don't you want a break from the snow, Nathan?"

I asked, taking off my coat.

Nathan turned to sit at the empty booth near the corner of the café.

Sitting down in front, I began to look around.

"Recognize anyone yet?"

I asked.

"We just got here, Alder, no one would be sticking out from the crowd."

Nathan said.

Tapping the table, I see two men in suits and shades walk outside passing the café.

They scan the environment from the outside.

The men walked inside, blocking my view.

"What would you two like to order?"

The waitress asks, looking to the other side of the bar.

I saw a young man with a hood over his face wearing a long black cloak.

The young man stands up grinning as some of his energy emits from underneath his cloak.

He reveals multiple daggers, electricity surges through the tip of the dagger.

Throwing them at light speed, I pushed the waitress out of the way.

She shouts in pain as she falls into the fall.

The daggers bounce off my body, as I block them with my forearm.

I groan.

"Run!"

Shouting to everyone, the customers scream as the crowd panics.

Nathan sprints towards me, reaching for the amulet on my belt.

"Nathan, don't try it!"

I said, punching him in the face.

"Agrh!"

Nathan is knocked off his feet, he growls as he stands up.

The young man sprints, ripping the amulet off my belt.

"I'll take this."

He says, with a grin.

Reaching for the young man, he flip kicks me.

"Agh!"

The young man sprints outside the back of the café.

I grunt, Nathan gets up to follow him.

The two men smirk, pulling out long assault rifles from their overcoats.

"We are taking that old man home."

One of them says as they shoot.

"Gah!!"

The bullets bounce off my body.

They chuckle as they continue to shoot me.

"We can do this all day pal!"

One of them shouted.

They continue to shoot at my forearms.

The two men stop firing to reload their guns.

People screamed in the shop, with no escape.

Rushing towards the man on the left, reloading his assault rifle.

He drops his assault rifle.

Pulling out a small pistol instead.

"Hold still."

The man said.

I sprinted in front of him, grabbing the gun.

Pushing the small pistol up to the ceiling.

As he pulls the trigger, the gun goes off.

We both wrestled over the pistol.

"You won't get away with this!"

The man shouts as he elbows me.

I groaned, barely fazed by his attack.

The man would punch me.

Growling at the man.

I yanked his pistol away.

Smacking him with the pistol.

I kicked the man's chest.

Sending him through the entrance of the café.

The man groans, as his body is shoved in heavy thick snow.

The man on the right picks up the waitress.

"Don't come any closer, I will blow her head off!"

The man shouts as he drops his assault rifle and points a pistol at the waitress's head.

I turned to the man on the right.

The man threw the waitress on the floor.

He began shooting at me.

Covering my face, as he empties the clip.

Continuing to shoot, he tries to reload as quickly as possible.

I punched him as he leaned against the bar counter.

The man grunts as he drops the pistol.

Punching him again, he stumbles, barely standing.

I grabbed him by the collar.

Throwing him out of the building into the snow.

I picked up the pistol on the floor.

Looking behind me, I looked down at the waitress helping her up.

"Are you okay?"

I asked.

She nodded.

"Get out of here now, it's dangerous."

I said, running towards the back of the café.

Opening the door, now in the alleyway.

I saw the young man sitting on the ledge.

Nathan was standing below him looking up.

Quickly, I hid behind the dumpster.

"Nathan, it's been a long time since we last saw each other."

The young man asked.

"Eric, have you atone yet for your failure?"

Nathan asks, Eric plays with the amulet.

"I atoned Nathan, Thorne expects me to bring you back with those thugs. Hired off the street, they aren't going to hold off that guy for long."

Eric says.

"Eric, I need that amulet now."

Nathan says.

"Is this what I think it is?"

Eric asks, inspecting the item.

"Thorne's power seems to dwell inside if only I can get a taste of it."

Eric said, taunting Nathan.

Dangling the amulet from the end of his finger.

Examining my surroundings, I grab a nearby trash can lid.

"You want it to come get it, Nathan."

Eric said to Nathan.

Tossing the lid of trash at Eric's arm.

"Ow!"

Eric grunts, dropping the amulet.

Nathan catches it.

Pulling out the pistol from my belt.

I threw at Eric's head.

Knocking Eric, stumbles.

He fell from the ledge. I ran to catch him.

Eric pulls out a dagger, slashing at me.

I threw him against the wall.

Punching him, he falls down unconscious.

"I know that hurts, Eric."

I said.

Turning to Nathan, he holds the amulet.

"Don't do it Nathan, it's not going to end well."

I said.

Nathan hesitated for a moment before giving me the amulet.

"You're right, let's just get this shit done."

Nathan said, picking up Eric.
