Chapter 2: Academy Arc (1)

Athan woke up the next day to the melodious sound of someone knocking on his door. It was so loud he expected the door to have a hole in it by now.

He put on proper clothing and opened the door, to see the most stereotypical gym teacher ever. He was muscled and had wide shoulders, his shirt barely containing it. He also had a pair of sunglasses on, as if he wasn't cliché enough.

"Boy, Military Academy. 10 minutes, grab your stuff, let's go." He barked.

Athan picked up his already packed belongings in a bag and signaled that he was done. He had nothing much to bring anyways.

"You bothered to pack. Not bad." The muscle man turned and walked to the truck waiting outside.

Athan boarded the back, that was completely sealed off. There were no windows, and the only things in there were students and seats.

This compartment was also soundproofed, probably not just for the comfort of the students in it. At least it was out of the sun.

Athan simply sat down and checked his daily quests.

[Daily Quests]

[1. Read up about Vampires]

[2. Stay out of the sun for an hour]

[3. Stay in the moonlight for an hour]

He pulled out his phone and typed in "Vampires'' into the search engine and read through the various websites. He noticed that there was no indication that there was any knowledge that vampires existed, or that vampires traditionally had systems.

Occasionally, the truck would open up and a new face would appear, but after a few hours they arrived at the Military Academy.

Many other identical trucks were all lined up in this area, and students were pouring out of them.

The sunlight hit him and the same notice appeared.

[Attributes reduced by 10%]

Students were lined up into several rows, with each one passing through a booth and then waiting at the other side.

When it was his turn, Athan was asked whether his Aura had been awakened, and whether he was from a prominent family.

With both answers being a no, a wristband with a screen was strapped onto his wrist, with the number 0 on it. A book was also handed to him, titled [Guide to awakening Aura].

He flipped through it, reading through the tips to grasp Aura and manipulating it. Although useless to him, it taught him several useful things about Aura users.

Most powers had a "channeling period", where the user had to gather his Aura to activate his skill. Aura also passively strengthen the body of it's wielder, unless they had absolutely no Aura left.

On the stage in front of him, a teacher started speaking.

"Welcome to the Fourth Military Academy! You will be spending the next two years here."

"You are free to use your phones, but do note that in restricted areas your devices are not permitted. Purposefully documenting and sharing military secrets is punishable by death, and it has happened before."

"Your wristbands track your power level. The number indicates your Aura level, and the alphabet is the assessed strength of your Aura talent. To have this score reassessed, please check with your teachers."

"It also tracks your vital status, and can send out a distress signal. That's all you need to know for now. It also has your dorm number, which can be swapped with a willing individual."

He wrapped up his speech with, "Work hard in improving yourself. Remember, your strength determines your status. Now shoo, classes start tomorrow."

Athan checked his wristband, and sure enough there was a fine test at the side.

Dorm F9 huh? Hope this goes well.

He noticed a gaze on him, and glanced over to see a guy squinting at him.

He was no less attractive than his new vampiry self, and when he noticed Athan looking back at him he just smiled and nodded.

He hurriedly made his way to his dorm and scanned his wristband to unlock the door and looked in.

It was made to hold four people, and was rather luxurious with each person having his own room, instead of four guys squeezed in one room with two bunk beds and one toilet. (Like a prison cell)

Athan was the first one there and claimed the biggest room with a large window just in case he learns to fly or something.

Two other fellows swiftly enter. One was an average looking fellow who also had a 0 on his wristband, and the other was a stereotypical blonde rich kid with an A1 as his power rating.

They did not introduce themselves, only claiming their rooms. Several minutes later, the same guy who was squinting at him earlier entered.

He noticed Athan with a surprised expression and held out his hand.

"What a coincidence! I'm John, what about you?"

Although John stood close to him earlier , he did not go off in the same direction as him. But noticing the S2 on his wristband, Athan smiled and accepted the hand.

"I'm Athan. Nice to meet you."

John's smile somehow stretched even further, "I'm pretty strong, so if you have any issues, you can ask for my help."

"Thanks, man." Athan pulled back his hand and John did so too, a little unwillingly.

Elsewhere, a rather confused student was rubbing his bruised wrist.

After Athan left, John's eye twitched and he muttered to himself, "Warden, what are you doing?"

"I'm following him!" John also said that sentence, so it looked like he was talking to himself.

"Why him?"

"He's handsome! Unlike you!"

"…"
