From behind the lower floors of the mall, he could hear the screams getting louder and louder. Even without actively scanning whilst utilizing his [Aether], Aziel could feel as the massive tide of ravenous, violent life forms were getting closer to their location.

The short moment whilst he and Lydia were held up turned out to be a bigger mistake than he had anticipated. The people who were scrambling in panic and were trying to rush downwards on the now out-of-order escalators in the faint hope of escaping from this infernal hell were now running in the opposite direction.

They were rushing upwards towards higher and higher floors leading the tide of infected humans along the way.

These infected creatures, that were once human were very much unlike those regular reanimated corpses that were popularized in modern media. They were unlike the zombies or ghouls that Aziel was familiar with from his previous life on Nova.
