Chapter 18: Drinking Blood And Taking Oaths

The first thing Gisella noted when she awoke was the softness beneath her fingers. It wasn’t like the softness of the dirt that was beneath her feet before she passed out, or the softness in the way Ryre held her as her vision faded to black.

This was a softness she had never been accustomed to before. It felt smooth and cold, a coolness that left her wanting to fall back into a deeper sleep. Her eyes shot open and she sat up in bed immediately, for it was a bed that she had been placed in.

A prince’s bed, to be exact, she realised as she came face to face with the cautious gaze of Ryre. He was sitting at the edge of the bed. His back leaning against the board at the end of the bed as his legs were spread out in front of him.

The bed was large enough that he was able to stretch out his long legs as well as having her lay at the top of the bed without touching each other.

Slowly, she pulled her legs closer to her body all the while keeping her fixed gaze on him.
