Chapter 15 : A hungry visitors
A week later, Zet was walking into the woods with headphones on, Kipo was walking around the treehouse, even though she spent so much time on the surface, she was still admiring the nature that surrounded her, green colors everywhere, water in Its original place to exist, sun shining on everything, all these things seem normal for other people, but not for a burrow girl, and Sarah was doing her research on the observatory, she was taking closer looks, she needed to find more information about the place and their next step before taking it, she does not like improvising.
It was 5 PM, they needed to go back before the sunset, this is the time where the night mutants rise and the day mutants sleep, Kipo noticed the sun was about to set, she decided to take a little bit more time before heading back, While Zet did not notice the sun, he could not see it from all the high trees around him, he was not aware of the time of the day until the moon has risen.
It's 7 PM, Kipo returned a while ago.
Kipo : where is he ?....he knows how dangerous it is at night.
Sarah : he's either in trouble....or he's just doing something dumb.
Kipo : too early to guess.....can you do the calling thing ?
Sarah : sure....it's just that we have to wait a little bit more.....I can't always use this call.
Kipo : is there something wrong with it ?
Sarah : it sounds like a wolf howl.....we don't want to attract any wolves with this call....so I only use it in emergencies.
Kipo : ok...but what if he's actually in trouble ?
Sarah : him ?.....I don't think so.....still an option to happen....but very unlikely.
It's now 8 PM, Zet has finally noticed the moonlight shining down on him, he climbed one of the trees around him to get a clearer moonlight and took something out of his backpack that he takes with him wherever he goes, it's a small T-shaped stick, he then lined it in the way of the moonlight, this survival strategy was used a very long time ago, to know the time, the shade of the stick works like a clock.
Zet looked at the time and realized it was 8 PM.
Zet in his mind : I'm not late that much.....I bet they think I'm dead or something.....or hoping for it.
Zet took his headphones off and started to listen to his surroundings, he knows that it's very dangerous to be alone in the forest, especially at night.
Sarah's patience started to run out, what she said before to Kipo was only to comfort her, she still thinks he can be in danger.
Zet was walking cautiously, checking every corner he can see, he knows that he can't use his powers in the middle of the forest, one lightning strike can burn the whole forest, he is defenseless.
And suddenly, he heard something, it sounded like footsteps, he got more paranoid, even without his powers, he can still fight, but it may not be in his favor.
Crow sounds everywhere, he felt someone is staring at him, he used his powers to see his surroundings in the dark, and then he saw it, it was a pack of wolves hunting for their night meal.
The wolves were trying to approach him as quiet as they could, they saw the lightning powers, they need to surprise attack him.
Zet in his mind : that's it.
Zet climbed the trees and started walking on the trees instead of the ground, he will be safer.
Kipo ran out of patience, she was getting so worried about him.
Kipo : that's it.....Sarah call him....he took long enough....if he doesn't respond to this, it means he's actually in danger.
Sarah nodded.
Sarah : get me a stick.
Kipo then went and picked up a stick from the house's surroundings.
While Zet was walking safely on the trees he suddenly sees a stick on fire thrown in the sky.
Zet in his mind : no...
He then hears the howling sound, his eyes widened, his heart started beating faster, Sarah just rang the wolves dinner bell, he ran as fast he could while he was able to hear the wolves under him running towards the treehouse, he had to reach there before them, seconds passing faster, the girls are clueless of the danger they just summoned.
After almost 2 minutes of running, a pack of wolves appeared out of the shadows growling.
Kipo noticed.
Kipo : um....Sarah ?
Sarah then looked, her eyes widened, she realized what she did.
Zet then appeared from the top.
Zet : inside !.....now !
The wolves recognized Zet, their prey that disappeared in a matter of seconds previously.
Zet was now out of the woods, the only tree around him is his own house, he's now able to use his powers.
They were 7 wolves growling at Zet getting ready to attack.
His eyes, hands and hair started to glow, he was ready for them.
The wolves started to jump at him, teeth and fangs out, ready to tear limbs, Zet was fighting for his life, awareness and fast reactions were his biggest weapons in this fight, bites hitting Zet repeatedly, he was bleeding but still fighting, every bite they did to him shocks them in return, Zet took down 4 wolves and that dealt a big amount of damage to him, one of the wolves attacked Zet, aiming for his neck, but the wolf couldn't reach without getting shocked to death, two wolves left, they decided to go from two different sides at the same time, Zet realized their plan, he immediately came up with a counter to it, the two wolves jumped at him at the same time, but he was faster than them, he ducked before they reach him, causing the two wolves to hit each other, they tried to run away after the fall, but they couldn't, Zet caught them both by the neck and shocked them with a big amount of electricity, they were screaming from pain, but Zet did not stop till they were dead, Zet won that fight, but came out bleeding, losing a lot of blood, he was close to death, but he survived, with the help of his friends.
Zet : you can come out now.
Sarah and Kipo came out of the house and looked around them, they saw all these dead wolves laying around, then they saw Zet, bleeding, breathing heavily, and was about to collapse.
Zet : Kipo.....there are some bandages in my black bag.....top-shelf left.
Kipo : on it.
Sarah : is this all of them ?
Zet nodded.
Sarah : you know we can fight too right ?
Zet : and let you bleed to death from a wolf bite ?....I'm good thanks.
Sarah : what happened ?....why did you spend so much in the forest ?
Zet : well....
Sarah : the music ?
Zet : yes....the music.
Sarah chuckled.
Sarah : you still as dumb as last time.
Zet chuckled.
Zet : I guess so.....but I'm not the reason why they came here.
Sarah : well....I guess I'm dumb too....anyway...glad you're safe....and thanks for saving us.
Zet : hey....one day you'll save me too....don't get too jealous.
Sarah : do you want the bandages or not ?
Zet : alright....I'll shut up.
Kipo then came with the bandages.
Zet : what took you so long ?
Kipo : it's top-shelf.....I'm too short for these heights.
Zet laughed while using the bandages.
Zet : fair enough.
Kipo : so what happened here ?
Zet : was listening to music and didn't realize it was night...and you called me and the wolves....fought them....should have died.....but somehow didn't.....and now we're here.
Kipo : you mean you didn't look up to realize what time it was ?
Zet : I was in the middle of the woods...I wasn't going to see it anyway.
Sarah : we're all safe and Zet is injured....so that's a win win for me....anyway...we'll take two more days here....and then we leave to the observatory.
Sarah and Kipo then helped Zet to get inside, he sat on his bed to rest.
Zet : thanks....hey Sarah....drag all the bodies and hide them in the woods...we don't want any more visitors.
Sarah then went to do what he asked her to do, Kipo followed her.
Zet : Kipo....I need you for a second.
Kipo : sure.
Kipo then sat on a chair next to Zet.
Kipo : what's up ?
Zet : so.....what did you choose ?
Kipo : hm ?....about what ?
Zet : your powers.
Kipo : oh....I actually forgot about that.
Zet : you saw all these wolves outside and what they did to me....I understand that you're probably scared from this....but this is all the risk you take for the people you care about to be safe....this is what makes you a hero.
Kipo then looked at the ground, she started to sweat, she wasn't sure at all, she can't keep avoiding this conversation with Zet, she had to give him an answer.
Kipo : I...will do it.
Zet : what's that ?....I didn't hear you....sorry...the wolves ate my ears too.
Kipo : I said I will do it.
Zet : wise choice.....better yet....a brave one....get ready to be a hero....wonderkid.
Kipo then ran out of the room, afraid of her decision, she just accepted to put her life in danger to save others.
Zet wasn't concerned, he can see what she is capable of, and he knows what an animal wonderkid can do, her powers are great, but is it with the right person ?
