The men found the beautiful women among the books, at the table, behind the couch and in other rooms and so, proudly stepping into the empty space in the middle of the living room, everyone began to spin in a dance.
"Honey, is something bothering you?" Celeste asked, just hugging him and looking mockingly at all those women and men who were burning with envy.
"No. There's just so much on my mind."
"What are you thinking about?"
"About you."
Celeste kissed him tenderly and then passionately. The people around her were ready to punch her for doing such an act. And the women simultaneously thought, "She has no shame."
"Wait. I don't feel well," Adelard said, feeling the urge to vomit. Dashing toward the restroom, he left Celeste alone and thus cheering everyone around him.
"Celeste, what's wrong?" Eva asked, touching her arm. Her kind eyes, though full of pain, were still ready to pay attention to each of her guests.
Celeste, smiling, looked at the woman and said, "It's okay."
"Here I am looking at you and I feel so good. I'm very happy for you and Adelard. You're so beautiful," Eva said, ignoring her husband's attempts to ask her to dance. "Let's sit in the garden. Would you mind?"
"I want some fresh air."
"Wait, where's Adelard?" Jean asked, looking around and seeing only identical faces in black and red masks.
"He got sick. I think he drank a lot of wine."
And everyone went off in different directions. And everyone wanted to be where their thoughts were.
It was a beautiful evening outside, as always with stars and a bright moon. The moon looked down on the roses in the garden and wondered what was in people's hearts. And all it got in return was more questions. Though the scarlet roses tried hard to tell that they had only love in their hearts. The fresh air with different scents was much more romantic than all that dancing to cheerful classical music. The narrow stone paths, the large empty jugs near the angel-shaped fountain, and Eva in her white dress described the evening perfectly. She was the only person in the place who didn't pretend like she was having fun. Instead, she wanted someone to ask her: How are you doing?
As if reading her mind, Celeste sat down on the bench that stood in the middle of the little garden. Her green dress, like a waterfall, joined the grass and leaves on the ground. And she finally asked, "Is something bothering you?"
It had been a long time since anyone had asked Eva this question. And no one had ever cared how she was feeling or why she was sad. After all, no one was interested in her life. And now, when that question came out of the beautiful woman's mouth, Eva literally collapsed on the bench, clutching her heart area.
"Life is strange," she said, smiling nervously. "Especially mine."
"You can tell me what's bothering you. I may not be able to help you, but telling me will make you feel better."
"Celeste you are very kind."
"I am a woman and I understand your feelings very well."
"Yes. You're right. But I don't even know where to begin."
"Just tell me what's on your mind."
Eva looked in the direction of the people who were outside screaming and then noticing Esma in the arms of some man, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "I have too much pain on my mind."
"So why don't you start living your life the way your heart tells you to?"
"I'm trying. But for some reason, I just can't start living."
"It's all because of Jean, isn't it? Tell me, does he hurt you?"
"No. He never hurt me. It's just that, you know, he has so many secrets. And I feel like he never loved me."
"What about your children?"
"My daughters are living their lives. They're happy. And for that I am grateful. I don't want to burden them with my presence."
"You're wrong. They are your children, and they love you. Though I don't know what it's like to love your mother."
"I'm sorry."
"What are you sorry for?"
"My sadness and unhappy life has made you think of yours."
"I am often reminded of my life. But now, Adelard has filled it completely. I have no past now. I only have moments spent with him."
"Your love proves that not all is lost in this world. I am so glad Adelard found you. Or you found him."
Celeste smiled and said, "Eva, if you want to talk to me, come to my house. I have never had a friend in this world. And I hope we will become a good friends."
"Of course. You are already my friend. And as a friend, I have to say that everyone talks about you. And they don't say very nice things about you. You just ignore them."
"I don't care about them. I have never cared about anyone."
Eva felt the strength emanating from this fragile girl, and feeling a similar strength inside, she shrugged her shoulders and sighed in relief. Life had never seemed so bright and new.
