Chapter 10

They walked in with their face mask on and with an air of confidence. She directed Ben towards the front door navigating through the traffic of personnel while avoiding eye contacts. On reaching the front door, it slide opened on its accord and they walked in to a display of awesomeness. There were large number or personnel walking to and fro with some others sitting and yelling into their telephone. She looked clueless at this situation, where are they supposed to go and what are they going to do. She thought to herself.

They stood there for some time when they heard someone voice behind them.

"It's about time, it took you guys so long to get the coffee. The usual...", The lady stopped halfway on seeing their faces. "You are not Jenny and Ken", she said surprised.

Janet studied the situation carefully in her mind. It was obvious that coffee was ordered around here very frequently and there were two popular faces that made the delivery. Maybe it were the employees they bought the clothes from.

"They had to go home, we are the replacement for today", she replied.

The lady sighed, "that means i have to show the usual. I don't have time for that now". She said hurriedly and began walking towards other side of the room and they followed her behind.

"Jack, new recruit. Take them to the usual", she ordered a tall white man that was initially staring at his computer screen.

"Yes ma", he said with respect and quickly got to his feet, the turned to look at them. "Follow me", he said.

It was obvious that this lady must be some kind of boss around here. Janet thought to herself. She looked at her name tag and was able to make out the name, Sophia. She added the name to her watchlist.

Jack directed them towards one of the many elevator that was seated nicely at the back of the room. There were over ten elevator that were never void of traffic. They took the one with less traffic and Janet saw Jack pressed the button with ten written on it.

"What happened to them", Jack turned towards them.

"Who", Ben asked calmly.

"Jenny and Ken", he responded strangely.

"They had to go home, didn't say much", Janet replied.

"That's too bad". Jack's voice was low and sympathetic.

"I have never seen you guys working there, and i was there this morning".

Ben looked frightening but Janet tap him carelessly on his shoulders to signify that he should remain calm.

"That's because we are new recruits", Janet replied quickly.

"Well congrats to you. It's not easy getting a job there", he praised and Ben just nodded in agreement.

They could feel the elevator stopping and it's door open right in front of them. Jack was the first to step out and they followed behind.

"Oh finally", a guy sitting at a chair just opposite them spoke.

Janet took time to admire the beauty of this work place. It was large with glass windows all over and fancy lights. There were beautiful well polished table arrange in an orderly manner with chairs placed round each table. She noticed that most of the personnel here were a little bit free in their behaviour and wore casual clothing.

This must be one of the top level employees, she thought to herself.

Jack clasped the hands of the guy that spoke earlier and another lady joined in their conversation.

"This are new faces", the guy spoke on sighting Janet.

"Yeah, we are new recruits", Ben responded quickly.

"It's nice to meet you", the guy walked up to Janet with outstretched hands and she shook the hand calmly.

"Well thank you and same here", Janet smiled.

"You can't just resist a fine lady, Finn", the lady that stood by Jack commented.

"I have a reputation of being unresistable", Janet added in a very seductive voice, flipping her hair by the movement of her head.

"Yeah, I can attest to that". Ben added.

Finn smiled, "I like this one", he turn towards Jack while pointing to Janet and they both share a laugh.

"Where are we dropping this?", Ben asked. "Our hands are sore of carrying this all day"

"Over her...."

Janet scanned the room with her eyes and noticed that just beside the elevator was a section that was separated from the main room by glass. There was nobody inside but it's entrance door was partly open. The person in charge of the office must have stepped out. She thought to herself.

They were at the other end of the room where Finn and the lady's space were. Ben had already placed the coffee on their desk carefully not to spill any on the papers scattered on the table.

"What is the name?", Finn asked looking directly at Janet.

"Ja...", then she heard it. Boss Boss, he is coming. She turned towards the direction of the chatter and there he was, the most handsome man she has ever seen. The mere sight of him made her body tremble. He was breathtaking with dreamy masculine features. Chiseled jaws, blue eyes, dark hair, pink well carved lips and the finest face ever. He wore red flannels and black pants with a pair of sneakers. He walked casually across the room to the separate apartment while some employees followed behind.

"....net the name is Janet", she replied still mesmerized by the sight in front of her.

Finn was not to happy by the switch of attention, yet he maintained his cool.

"That would be all", the lady quickly dismissed them on noticing Finn change of mood.

"Thanks very much", Ben bowed in respect and tap Janet on her shoulder jolting her back to reality. They walked away from their space and sauntered back to the elevator.

"We need to see him", she spoke in low tone.

"Who?". Ben asked puzzled.

"The Boss", she replied in the same manner.

"How?" Ben asked.

"I gat an idea", she sounded excited.

They were close to the elevator when she made a swift turn and started walking quickly to the boss office. The employees were astonished at first but when they realized what she was about to do, some of them made their way towards her. A guy held her by the hand and another lady stood in front of her. She wasn't swayed by their efforts. She just stared at the boss who was already seated in his office. There was another guy with him. He was tall and had a blue suit on. She smiled immediately her gaze met the boss's and he smiled in return. The boss signaled to let her him and she walked proudly into the office.

Ben was taken aback by what just happened and was still in shock as he watched the situation unfold before his eyes. He had wanted to intervene when the first guy held her back but he got scared and just sat it out. When the boss invited her in, he felt jealous and wanted to followed her but again he was scared. This wasn't high schoolers, this were real adults with real power.He thought to himself.

What was he gonna do now, go or wait. He thought frantically.

"You can sit here",a very beautiful lady said pointing to an empty chair just beside him.

"Thanks", he smiled.

"Don't worry, this won't be quick. He does that a lot. Inviting delivery waitress to his office", the lady explained as Ben took his seat besides hers. "If she is your girlfriend, then forget it. She is his now".

Janet walked slowly into the office observing the interior design closely as she walked in. She fixed her gaze at him. He sat proudly on his chair, fumbling a black pen carelessly with a smirk on his face.

"Have your seat dear and what's your name", the man asked.

She sat down on the chair at the opposite end of the table, resting her hands on her laps and staring directly at his eyes and they were captivating.

"My name is Jessica", she stuttered.

The other guy that was standing beside the boss had his back against her so she couldn't see his face. On hearing her voice, he turned towards her and there it was, that face. His face turned sour immediately as he remembered the anger and venom in her eyes as he thrust in and out of her mother.

She was horrified at the sight of him. She killed him, she could remember the splash of blood on her clothes and face, his cries as he slumped to the ground. How can this be. Here she was looking at Joshua, the boy that slept with her mother. The boy that she supposedly killed.
