The Perfect Match

"AGHHHH!!!!"

The little girl screamed as I took off at a tremendous speed. "Haha! Hold on, kid!"

I couldn't believe my eyes. I had never seen something like this before. A battle with guns and all sorts this close.

Laser beams were flying all around the air. Two or three cops fell from their hoverboards after getting shot by the terrorists.

I knew those terrorists very well. They were wearing high-tech armor. The thing that differed them from the other terrorists was this suit.

They had a blue pattern carved into the suits and a big blue circle in the middle which all the lines connected to.

It was their symbol... The symbol of the Gears.

"Inside that float tank is a superhuman power! We need to get that! We can't let it be destroyed!" one of the Gears yelled.

A float tank was hovering in the middle of the battle. 'So that's what they were fighting for... Damn... I should escape!' I thought.

I quickly stepped back and ZAP!

A laser beam flew past my ear. I jumped back to cover and hid under the car.

'Fuck! That almost got me! I underestimated the damn situation! Mitsu! Akira! Please be safe!' I thought to myself.

Boom!

There was an explosion. I looked up and saw that one of the wings of the flat tank had exploded. Yep! It was going to crash on me if I stay here!

"Ahh! I– cops!" I hesitated. The ship was coming down and I was about to get crushed by it.

I finally grew some guts and ran.

"Fall back Gears! Innocent citizens are dying! Please..." one of the cops screamed.

There were about 5 cops and about six Gears. The Gears had a high-tech wingsuit that supported them in flight. The cops had the hoverboards.

I ran through the streets without looking back. And the next thing I knew, there was a vast explosion behind me.

My feet trembled and I fell to the ground, Smack! right on my face.

I felt a tingling sensation in my ears. An ear-bleeding sound reverberating. I couldn't bear it. I couldn't get up.

"Citizen! Are you all right?"

Someone was calling out for me. I looked back and Zwing! The guy dropped down with a thud, right next to me. It was a cop.

No... Am I gonna die!

My heartbeat was raising. I reached for the gun that was dropped beside the cop, not by will, but by my instinct.

"Citizen! Please... Drop that gun and I'll let you—"

Before the damned Gear could say anything, I pulled the trigger.

"You bloody moron!"

The guy tried to take cover but the few shots from the gun in my hand blasted his armor. The lasers I fired pierced through their armor along with the wingsuit.

Before I knew it, I killed the Gear.

'No! What have I done? I... I killed him.'

Then, I heard the scream of a child. It was coming from the float tank. It was a little girl's scream.

I was truly freaking out at that moment. And when I heard that little girl, I could only think of my daughter.

I stood up and took a glance at the float tank which was on fire. The little girl's scream came from behind the tank.

I looked at the gun and the two dead bodies that lay dead on the street. The Gears and the Cops were battling above, 4 on 4.

But no one came to save the girl. I had to.

"Fuck! I'm going in!"

I took a deep breath and ran to the tank which was on fire now.

I went around the float tank, only to see something I had never even seen before.

"What the hell is this!"

Something was floating in the air, just a little above ground level. It was a cube. It was constantly changing its shape.

"Hey! Come here!"

The girl was in tears. She came running and wrapped her arms around one of my legs. She was scared.

"Come on... Let's move! We don't need to get involved in this crap!" I took the girl's hand and started to walk away.

And... SWOOSH!

Something hit my back very hard.

It was the weirdest feeling I ever had in my life. My vision got blurred and I fell.

"Oni-chan!" the little girl screamed.

That was the last thing I heard before I became completely unconscious.

Gears and the Cops were fighting. This was the chance to get to the Glitch! I need to be successful in this mission! If it gets into the wrong hands... Reapers are finished too.

"Shiroma! The tank crashed! There's a savage citizen on the street! Look out! He has a gun..." Oki-san called out to me.

"Sure thing! Citizens won't hurt me! Don't worry!"

I switched off my earpiece and focused on the tank which had crashed. I took my gun and slowly stepped closer to the tank.

And this guy managed to show up. A white-haired guy with a handsome face. But he was too slim.

"Don't screw up my mission!"

I hated killing the innocent. It made me feel... Really bad.

The guy was there to take the girl away. I waited for a moment until he left. He saw the Glitch, but... Who can stop him from seeing it?

And just when he started to walk away with the girl, the Glitch... It reacted. It went into that white-haired guy!

"What!? The Glitch! It found its natural match! How!?"

I was lost now. My mission was to take the Glitch to the base and experiment on it... But now, the mutation received its natural match.

I quickly called for Oki-san.

"Oi! The Glitch! It found a natural match! It found a perfect match! The body of this guy... It reacted to his body!"

Oki-san was speechless, just like I was.

"I... Take the guy! I'll instruct you what to do on the way! Just take the guy and run!"

I quickly ran to the unconscious man and grabbed him. He wasn't that hard to lift.

"If this thing works... I don't know how powerful you would become..."
