Shared trauma

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to stir up any mournful memories," I apologized.

Her eyes had a faraway look to them and it seemed as though she hadn't heard me.

"I don't know why I feel this way but I think I can trust you enough to share," She decided after a minute.

She had heard me after all.

"Okay then, if you're comfortable enough, I'm here with a listening and attentive ear."

I didn't know what it was about me that made most people I meet open up to me about their personal lives even when I don't ask or I ask unintentionally; nevertheless, it made me happy knowing that I was perceived as a confidante by people.

She sighed heavily before beginning.
