Key awoke the next morning. As he opened his eyes he turned his head to his left arm, where he found his mother sitting on the ground, laying over his bed. Her gentle breathing and her hands wrapped around his arm while she slept, gave him a warm feeling inside.
He tried not to wake her up but the moment she felt him awake she jolted up. With a light smile on her face, she asked her son, "How are you feeling?".
Key thought about it for a moment as he examined his body. He felt fine. Better than fine actually. He felt alive. Like the entire world could be his if he simply wished for it.
He responded with a concise, "Great! Maybe even better than that.".
She looked at her son and was truly unsure of whether this was to be a blessing or a curse. After all, in his blood lies an amazing power that comes at a hefty cost. She asked, needing to be reassured, "Are you sure you feel okay?".
Key nodded his head with the brightest smile on his face. Even his mother was a bit surprised at how wide his smile was, reminding her of the man she'd spent most of her life loving. He's just like his father she thought. then stood up and headed towards the door. Making sure to invite Key along for breakfast.
At the table Key was greeted with another feast of fruits. This time it was apples. Not his favorite but they had a sweet flavor he just couldn't say no to. He sunk his teeth in as he devoured all the food on the table, leaving just enough for his mother.
She pondered about how to bring this up with her son and decided on just jumping straight to the point… "Key, I have something to say.". He looked curiously at his mother as she continued…
"Key, you're a vampire." with a deadpan face, devoid of almost any expression. It shocked Key to see this. He thought, what a lame joke.
He laughed, trying to brush it off but she didn't laugh alongside him. She just kept staring at him, lightly nodding her head after he came to the realization she might actually be serious. How could I be a vampire? That's crazy, he thought.
But was it really crazy, it's not like he knew who his father was. And he was sure that the peach was full of blood last night. It won't be an easy thing to accept anyway so let's just ask some questions he thought.
"Mom, are you…? You know?" Key questioned her.
She tilted her head a bit as she looked puzzled for a moment, proceeding to ask her son, "Am I what?"
"A vampire!" Key thought it would be obvious.
Oh my, she thought. This boy is quite silly isn't he? She responded with a soft tone, "No, I am not. But your father is."
Key looked surprised at her words. He hadn't heard much about his father. Not that he ever asked that much, but to learn this was quite startling.
"So what am I then?" Key said looking dejected. His whole world had seemed to fall apart. His mother being the only thing that made sense, he quickly relied on her to salvage what he could from his mental state.
She stood up and moved next to her boy, getting down onto her knees and grabbing his hands. Knowing that this was the moment he needed her most. She said looking at him with a beautiful smile, one that seemed to pierce his heart…
"Well you're a monkey. Like me. And a vampire. Like your father." She tried to explain it simply, even if it wasn't at all simple.
Key thought about it for a moment, his mood having recovered a bit. The only thing he knew about vampires are the stories he heard growing up from school. They drink blood and live forever. That's all he knew.
Key asked his mother, "Does that mean I have to drink blood?".
She didn't really know the answer. With what she was told before his father left, he shouldn't need to but it would definitely help. But nobody really knew.
She responded unsure, "I don't know. I don't think so, but your father said it would help.".
The Key of yesterday would've been repulsed by the thought but the him of today not only was okay with the thought, but he wanted to. His entire body was delighted at the thought of drinking blood.
His mother interrupted his train of thought and asked, "Do you want to try some of mine?".
Key didn't even take a second to think before he grabbed his mothers wrist and brought it to his mouth… taking a sniff before he sunk his fangs in. As quickly as he bit her, he pulled his fangs out and jumped back, making the chair fall over as he lay there on the ground.
His mother grabbed her wrist, rubbing it as she watched it heal right in front of her eyes. She stood up and walked over to her boy who was laying on the ground with his face showing disgust pointed inwardly.
Key racked his brain and his thoughts were rushing a million miles an hour. What did he just do? He didn't even think about it before he bit her. Looking at his mom puzzled at why she was smiling at him and walking closer, he thought to himself to push himself further away but she soon grabbed his hands and told him, "It's okay.".
He looked towards his mothers wrist that he'd sunken his fangs into and surprisingly, it was healed. Like he'd never done anything in the first place. At least his mother was okay, that's what mattered to him.
She was impressed with her son's ability to control himself despite being able to drain her dry if he so pleased. She asked Key the same question, "Would you like to try some of my blood?".
Key didn't even think about it before he responded, "Um, are you sure I can? What if I can't control myself?". Despite his showing earlier, he didn't really control himself that much since he didn't really drink her blood.
She shook her head as if she wasn't even worried. Like the thought hadn't even crossed her mind as she pulled her son into her embrace. Her arms wrapped around him trying to comfort him as she nuzzled his head into her neck.
This was a compromising position for Key, as he could not only hear the blood rushing in her neck but also feel her pulse. The sweet scent filling his nose. The temptation was growing as he thought his mother was crazy for bringing him so close like this.
She knew he was reluctant but she needed to make sure he wasn't going to go on a blood bender consuming everyone in sight. She needed to know if he could truly control himself, to refrain from draining anyone dry. And as she expected she felt a prick in her neck as her son's lips sucked the blood out of her body.
It was a truly pleasurable feeling, for the one doing the drinking and the one being drunk from. His mother suppressed her moans as she reminisced about the moments that had long passed… where she'd offered her blood on more than one occasion to his father.
Key couldn't believe the rush he was feeling. The feeling of the warm blood coating his throat, rushing down his throat and filling his body with an unimaginable power. It was pure bliss. A euphoria he'd never felt before, and wondered if he'd ever feel again.
His mother grabbed her son's head with one hand and pressed it into her neck as she used her other hand to dig into his back… struggling to handle the feeling that was slowly overtaking her body. She'd never lusted for her son, nor would she ever do anything. But this was a feeling she couldn't resist feeling. Even if it only lasted a bit longer.
Key could feel his mother pulling him in closer and he didn't know why but felt he needed to stop. Like he'd reached a point of no return. If he didn't stop now, then he wouldn't. So he pulled out his fangs and watched curiously as the wound disappeared in an instant. His mom breathing heavily, she pulled him closer for a hug and told her son, "Thank you!".
Key was perplexed. What did he do to be thanked?
Only she knew why she thanked him, two reasons actually. One was for controlling himself, it looked almost effortless to him from her perspective which gave her hope. And the other was for allowing her to feel it again. That was a feeling you couldn't replicate. So she was grateful to feel something she thought she'd never feel again.
