Quick as a flash, your revolver is in your hand. Its report startles everybody and sends up a general cry of alarm. But you hit your mark. Once the initial shock has passed, your companions follow your gaze to the shattered yellow carcass lying next to Abdul's hand.

"A deathstalker!" gasps Esme, eyes wide. "A Palestinian yellow. Scorpions don't come more deadly than that in this wilderness."

Abdul looks at you with wonder, deep gratitude in his eyes. "You may have just saved my life. Thank you, my friend."

Shaken and relieved, you accept the group's admiration, get to your feet, and head off to your tent to set up your bedroll for the night.
