You hide behind the door, doing your best to minimize yourself so that you don't get noticed. Just to be safe, you draw your pistol and get ready. You know the pistol is next to useless, due to the Fiend's near-invulnerability when it comes to bullets, but just having it in your hand makes you feel better.

A few minutes pass, and you see a silhouette appear at the door before it slides open. The Shadow just stands there, looking about awkwardly for a moment before it gazes down at you. At that moment, you stand up and bring your pistol to bear, but the Shadow lashes out at you with its foot, knocking you off balance and your gun away from your hand. It hisses at your feeble attempt to try and catch it off-guard before it lunges at you, grappling with you on the ground.

The two of you wrestle on the ground for a while, with neither of you gaining the upper hand. The Shadow puts up a good fight though, clawing and biting at you angrily, leaving you with a few nasty marks. Eventually, though, you gain the edge and pin the Shadow underneath you. It tries to escape, sinking its teeth into your arm, and you cry out in pain, but you persist and punch it in the head several more times before it goes limp and its body begins to dissipate.

You shake your arm, a little relief to see that you do have some sensation in your limb despite the slight trickle of blood flowing down it. You quickly bind up your injury, keeping a cautious ear out for any other Shadows. Fortunately, this Shadow seems to be the only one in the car. Nothing else happens, though, and no one seems to come looking for him. Still, you wait for a while before you dare to venture out.

Once you're certain, you quietly slip out of your cabin.
