"At first, we thought that these were Fiends and this was just them being like Fiends, random and vicious when it comes to attacking people," the Major starts off. "But after First Private Lee's reappearance, our intelligence went to make a few inquiries into the whole matter and found that certain places appeared to have been specifically targeted. For example, while you were protecting the President in Agartha from the Fiends, a government research facility was broken into and several objects were stolen. It seems likely that the attack on the President was staged so that we wouldn't notice this theft taking place."

The Major takes a deep breath at this question.

"We have a bit of an idea as to what the engines can do," the Major says and looks at your team. "With the lone engine in our possession, our researchers have studied it as intently as they can and given us some clues as to the origin of the engine. Carbon dating places the engine at approximately ten thousand years old, and they believe that engine was constructed by human hands using tools available during that time period." You frown a little at the implications of her words, as do the rest of your teammates.

"We haven't been able to replicate the dimensional gate in your report of the incident, no matter what we try. It might be that only one type of engine can do it, or that the Fiends are the only ones who are capable of turning the engine into a gate. We can't say for sure until we get a few more engines and run more tests on them," the Major continues, and your team glances at each other for a moment.
