Chapter 29: Pain Only Makes Me Stronger

I covered my head, curling in on myself as Darrius, Malcolm, and Simeon's punches slammed into me. This was my punishment for not having faith in any Fae. In not believing that some of them, even the Unseelie, could be good.

Something along both sides of my back ruptured, knocking back my men.

My flesh felt like acid had been poured along my spine. I cried out, the pain making all reason flee.

"Avery," Simeon's voice broke through to me.

I blinked, opening my eyes. He stood there with the bone dagger gone, his wounds healed. A choked sob burst from my lips. Then I turned to find Malcolm and Darrius healed and standing as well.

"No! I will teach you to fear me!" The Gwyllion raised her bone knife, still red from Simeon's blood, and plunged it into Helga.

I dove for them both. Something behind me shoving me forward like the wind. I clamped my hands on the Gwyllion's throat, squeezing with all my might.
