Steal Me Part I

I washed my dishes and went upstairs to the room Aaron told me was mine. I sat on the bed and let the soft sheets kiss my skin as I tried to relax. They might still be able to track me down even though I turned off my phone. I need more time to think of my next move.

"Sapphire, you just have to knock on Aaron's door and tell him about the phone GPS thing," I said to myself "…that's it. Yeah! That's just it!"

I knocked on Aaron's door but no one answered but the door was slightly open, "I'm letting myself in." I opened the door and saw Aaron lying soundless on his bed.

He must have not had enough rest. I sat on the floor where I could face him and examine his face again just like I did before. Did he just cry? He cries too? I tried wiping it by using the back of my hand but he was able to grab it before I could even touch his skin. He opened his eyes slowly and sadly wandered on my face.

"Why do you look so hurt?" The words came out of my mouth with no control.

"What are you doing in my room?" he dropped my hand so he could help himself in sitting on his bed.

"Well, Mark…"

His jaw tightened.

"…called me and said that he's sending a search brigade for me. He said that I should turn on my phone's GPS to track me. I didn't follow him; instead, I turned it off. But from what I know, they could still find a way to track it, right? And knowing that Henry is here…I should also protect Mark in some ways, right?"

He didn't stay anything for a while. He quietly stared at the wall as if he was calculating his next move. "Where's your phone?" he asked with a tired voice. I took it out of my pocket and handed it to him. The phone started to shatter into smaller pieces where not even an engineer could return it back to its old form.

"That works too," I mumbled in my breath.

"If that's your only business with me, you may now leave my room. I need to rest." He laid his back on the bed and turned to face the wall. I am now just facing his back.

"There you are again. Pushing me away again. Why do you keep doing this? I'm not enjoying this hobby of yours." I'm really annoyed at how he treats me.

He turned to face me and sat up on his bed. Directly looking into my eyes he speaks, "I'm just distancing myself from you."

"Well, aren't you good at that sport? Very consistent on doing that before and guess what, you're able to bring that here in France. You're very talented."

He sighed heavily. "Sapphire, don't make this harder for me."

"H-harder? I am making this harder? For you?" I stood up. "Wow, I'm making this harder for you. For months, I've been trying my best to forget you and I'm making this harder for you?"

"Sapphire, you don't understand."

"Of course, I don't. I always don't. But how can I understand if you don't explain things to me?"

He stood up. "I am just trying to make this thing easier for us. Right, just like you said, this is just a mission. A mission…" he slapped his forehead. "What a big failure I am."

I furrowed my brows.

"It's probably easier this way because once the mission is over, I could leave you peacefully and I'll go back to the SIA Headquarters. I was going to get you back but clearly," his eyes shifted on the ring on my hand, "you don't belong to me anymore."

What does he mean by that? "I was never yours, to begin with anyway."

He smiled painfully. "Supposedly, you were."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

/This./ His voice traveled in my head in a rainbow again. Vanilla started to flow in my mind once more. I'm floating up in the—no. Enough.

"What…" I am at a loss for words.

"It doesn't matter now. You're going to get married soon anyway. It's too late for that."

"Yes, the day after tomorrow. I should actually be having a peaceful lunch with my fiancé right now. But you have to explain this to me, please? I need a good excuse to tell him once I return to him." I begged, I don't know why but I begged.

He looked at me disappointingly. Disappointed about what? Does he pity my situation? Good to know that he's got empathy too.

Then a loud bang on the door downstairs cut us.

He immediately stood up and left me in his room.

My whole body loosened up. I felt tears fall from my eyes again. After a long while, I felt lifted again, as if his telepathy just cleared my mind and heart once more. I grabbed a section of my hair trying to pull my hair out. Why am I feeling this way now?

/Sapphire, run./

I froze, what does he mean? I followed anyway.

I looked out the window and saw the same car from earlier parked right beside Aaron's car. Henry was able to catch up. I thought we already lost him. This is bad. Really really bad. I ran towards my room quietly so it won't alert Henry and worsen the situation. I looked out of the window to see if it was safer on this side. I need to get out of here. It's not safe.

Seeing that the ground below is clear, I jumped out of it without second thoughts. I'm inexperienced with parkour so it kinda hurt the bottom of my feet when I landed. I hid behind the tall grass on the lawn. As I am brushing away the dirt from my pants, a loud explosion echoed inside the house. Please let not that be Aaron. Another explosion echoed in my ears. No.
