Xander was pleasantly surprised to find Rufina sleeping, his face expressionless and downright different from the emotion he’d carried all day, he looked solemn and calmer now, his usual smile was gone and he looked exhausted, he sighed before watching her more closely.
She had a risky sharp jaw that begged for his lips to trail and just the right amount of cheeks he could lean in and nibble, her full fiery hair was relaxed and stretched to a straight perfection, and she had the most serious look even in her sleep, like she’s in a boardroom somewhere in her mind and now he wonders where she works.
She’d been dressed impeccably good earlier in a mini coffee brown pencil skirt, a white shirt and a knee length brown coat, and her scent had been marvelous making him feel like overwhelming desire to lean in to catch a whiff of her smell again but he knew it was a bad idea so he swiped his tongue over his lips and leaned back.
It is her. The wall breaker.
She’s the first to shake his heart, to make him forget for hours and he didn’t hate it, he wanted more of it.
It’d been a lie when he told her he’d taken a break from work for a month, he’d actually taken a break from life for almost two years now. His happy face was all a facade that even his best friends have fallen for and there’s almost nothing that gets past them.
His blue attentive eyes followed the contour of her face again, for a redhead she barely has any freckles, he wished she would open her forest green eyes and stare into his soul but he couldn't disturb her beauty sleep.
He turned to face the ceiling as he rearranged his thoughts, he had to make some calls and that was when he remembered he didn’t have his phone on him and would have to use hers to contact his assistant, with a sigh he turned and tapped lightly on her shoulders.
“Rufina?”
“Umm can I─ you should go upstairs” he said instead when her drowsy eyes met his, he found himself unable to ask.
She stared at him for almost five seconds before she looked at herself and then she yawned, making him wonder if she heard him at all. She stood up quietly, her squeezed pajamas stretching, glanced at him again and asked softly, “Is the movie finished?” it made him wonder why she didn’t look at the tv instead to confirm.
“I think you’re done with it for today” he said instead, his tone soft and patient. He had an aura to him that she couldn’t disagree with because it sounded, and felt so right, felt so wrong to go against.
Rufina nodded as she handed the tv remote to his waiting hand, she started to walk out of the living room. “Put off the tv before going to bed please and make sure the gas and door is closed we don’t wanna have unneeded tragedies this month” she instructed as though she’d repeated those lines a thousand times before and she had, she was a first daughter and a first child leadership and directing came naturally.
At the absence of a response she stopped in her tracks and turned to look at him, confused, he held her gaze too for a few seconds before she raised an elegant brow making him smile in a breathy way, “Yes, Ma’am” he said and that seems to do the magic of reminding Rufina that this wasn’t any of her brothers. “Actually they’re all done just make sure to switch off the tv” she said instead and moved on.
Is she OCD? Xander wondered silently because repeating such instructions and wanting a reply too was a tad bit serious to him. He’d hate a repeat of his past.
He followed her up the stairs, her steps were surprisingly sure and conscious, unlike how she sounded, they reached her room and as she opened her door to step inside he stopped her with a word, “Can I borrow your phone?”
