Chapter Two: wEReWoLVeS

Emma arrived some ten minutes late to school and as she walked hurriedly over a few blocks to meet up with her first class this morning, the wind kept on slapping her face with her loose bouncing tresses, albeit gently.. And then she saw him..

"Great!" She mumbled softly, and continued on her way.

"Hey, pretty! You look truly stunning today.. Why so late to school, huh?" His tone was coarse yet sexy to the ears. Even more so, in his appearance. He always looked charming and it was no wonder more than half the girls would kill to have a sip of his attention. The morning wind blew over his curls causing it to crash down his forehead. He noticed her staring.. "You.." he studied her gaze, "you're looking at this?" he brushed his curls to the back of his head and paused to eye her delicateness. She was beautiful, he admitted in his heart. Even without needing to try, she always looked stunning. Those little dotted freckles teasing her cheek skin was just about right!

Emma watched as his countenance changed from a quick stare to a forced smile, "Eish!" he exclaimed, before grinning boyishly all of a sudden, "the wind always tries to mess this up, you know?.. my effortless charms! Don't I still look quite the charmer?" he widened his grin even more.

"Go away, Landon. Not today! I am late for lectures as it is and I have a practical class in about an hour. Now, choo!" She waved her hand dismissively at him, making him shift to the side to allow her. Emma then started on her way again, but she was wrong in thinking he would give up that easily.

He began to trot behind her but she was walking too fast that he began to jog to catch up to her.

"Hey!"

"Emma!"

"Wait up!"

"Yeah, right." She muttered under her breath as she walked even faster from him. In her mind, he would not understand, he was never going to understand what amount of dedication it took to major in the sciences and strive to ace all her courses.. which she mostly always succeeded in.. Right now, he was posing a major distraction to her reaching class in time.

"Emma.. " Landon called, jogging some more, "this is no way to treat a brother, alright?"

"You are stalking me! Go, do something else with your life." She then turned to flash him a quick grin before turning back around.

"Hey! You don't have to try so hard by faking a smile at me, alright!"

"Great."

"I know you clearly don't want to talk to me!"

Emma giggled lightly.

"So why are you shouting when I can clearly hear you?"

"Oh!" he exclaimed sharply, "Sorry.. " His breathing was becoming even more unsteady at this time. Emma began to pity him for making him run so much. But there was nothing she could do about it.. Too bad for him!

"But babes.. you really need to wait up!"

"Why?" She fired at him.

"Because.. " he gasped and then stopped jogging altogether, bending his head downwards to catch his breath, his hands stretched on both his legs, as he kept to that position.

Emma stopped also, from not hearing his advancing footsteps anymore. He was neither jogging nor walking. She began to wonder what he was all about. Flipping a turn, she rested her amber green eyes on him.

"What do you want to say to me, Landon?" She settled her eyes on him in a way that suggested for him to say what he wanted to say and fast!

The Irish boy lifted his head just in time to catch her eyes..

"There's been killings, Emma.."

That was it?! That was what he wanted to say?!

Emma heaved a sigh of disappointment and then said, "Killings happen everyday, Lan. Is that what you want to make me waste my time listening to?" Her voice was always soft sounding, like a whisper most times.. or maybe Landon was hallucinating it that way..

"Of course not, babes," he began to saunter closer to her, "Or maybe so. But listen.. " the boy had measured up to her by now, "from that curious look I can spot on your face and the question you just asked, I can tell that you do not know. The thing is reports have been on about some things.. man beasts prowling the streets as humans but are actually those things, you know.. " he moped around as if to avoid being seen by someone before leaning close to her ears to whisper spookily, "wOlVeS.. Emma, wEReWoLVeS.. "

Emma slapped him hard on his shoulder.

"Ouch—

"What did you do that for?" he shouted erratically, sounding pained.

"Now, that's what you get for tryna scare me, Silly.. " She said, beaming a smile at him.

"But it's true," Landon explained, "I've only just said the truth.. " he paused to continue massaging his shoulder with his other hand, "three teenage girls have been found dead already with markings of that kind. It's been all over the news. They were found dead at awkward places.. even in schools."

"What?" Emma exclaimed in shock.

"Look around you.. " he told her, "didn't you also notice the tight security at the gates when you walked in?"

She mused long and deep about this because what he'd just said was what had actually happened. But she soon broke her lips apart to say to him.. "That's right. I can also notice the officers on patrol," Emma darted her eyes about her shoulders, from saying this, "but is that the reason for this? I mean.. the news of those girls?"

"I'm afraid so. From now on, it would be best if you no longer walked alone, okay? I am saying this because I care a lot about you.. "

"Tell me about it," She then rolled her eyes towards the heavens. "but.. thanks! I will keep an eye out from now on."

"Or I could be your knight in shining armour from now on.. " he cut in, leaping awkwardly too close to her, nearly engulfing her air space with his strong perfume.

She pushed him off.

"Move! You are being scary right now. See you around and thanks!"

Landon stood watching as her perfect silhouette kept departing from him until she completely disappeared into the distance.. He'd deliberately omitted the major bulk of his talk.. The part that deeply involved her..
