Chapter 7:

Arriving at the house after only an hour after being "free" and that getting abruptly ended, we entered the living room with all the hunting decors. Everyone was sitting around in the weird circle. They seemed to be waiting for something to happen or where they were waiting for us. "What are you doing home so early?" Brian asked. With no response, everyone began to stare at us, and again Brian asked in a louder and frantic tone, "What's wrong? Is everything okay? Did something happen? Answer me! Sly? Eve? Tell me what happened! What is wrong? Please, tell me! Sly! Eve!" His eyes were scanning us over, checking if we were hurt or not.

Marcus stood up and exclaimed, "What is wrong?"

With that I began to cry uncontrollably, I fell into the arms of the nearest person, which turned out to be Kenny. Crying into his arms, I tried my hardest to tell what had happened. "Eve, calm down! What happened?" Kenny said while rubbing my back.

Taking in a deep breath and trying to hold back the tears, I tried to tell everyone everything, but it was all for not. I was a blubbering mess.

"Sylvester! What happened?" Marcus yelled as the house shook.

"Liam and Jeffrey know about Eve," he said with his head held down low.

"What do you mean they know?" Marcus exclaimed.

"We ran across Liam behind a building, and he used his Guetta to control a girl and then he was trying to get Eve to go with him. Liam just knew she was my sister. But Jeffrey knew about Mom and Eve."

When Sly finished the story, I continued to cry, and the boys gathered around me to comfort me. "I want to go home to Kansas," I cried into Kenny's arms. Looking up from my crying, I saw the adults and they looked devastated. The dads and then the kids were staring at Marcus, awaiting his instructions.

With a stern look on his face as he stared out the window, Marcus exclaimed, "This is not good. Sly, are you sure that it was Liam and his uncle?"

"Yeah, I'm sure. It is kind of hard to forget Liam and his big ego. And his Uncle Jeffrey is not the kind of person you can just forget in life," Sly said with some sarcasm.

Marcus stared at Sly for his sly comment. Donny then spoke up, "Why would they be out in broad daylight? Liam makes sense, but why would Jeffrey be out in about unless…"

"They know about her," said Marcus and Brian at the same time.

Pushing away from Kenny's arms, I whipped away the tears and exclaimed, "Who is 'her'? Is it my mom or me? How do they know about me…or her? I did not even know about this world until yesterday. How can this be? What… What… What do I do?

"It is okay," Brian said, coming over to comfort me. "You have the right to know everything that has to deal with you… and your mother. But first before we go into that, what do you want to know first?"

"Who are Liam and his Uncle Jeffrey?" I asked. "Why is it so bad that they know about me?"

One hand coming over and laying on my shoulder, Kenny said, "Liam is a kid the same age as us. Liam and his uncle are from a rival pack that live around here…"

Interrupting, Evan put a hand on me to add, "We go to the same school as Liam. We have different morals from the Slechts. They believe in using powers for their own gain and we prefer to fit in with the humans and use our powers only when necessary…"

Butting in and adding information, Sly said, "That is what you saw with the girl. We call that Guetta. It is kind of like hypnotism but more powerful, and there is no way to fix it. Anything you say to the person in the Guetta stays that way forever and if you try to change it, the person will die."

"And there are many other powers, but that doesn't matter," Marcus exclaimed in an irritated tone.

"All you need to know is that the Slechts are very dangerous people, and they are everywhere. They will do whatever it takes to get what they want. And right now, what they want is you. So, from now on you will always have at least two people with you, and that is final. Your personal time has gone shrunk down. I am sorry, but we must keep you and the legend safe, at least until you are in control of your powers and yourself. This is only for your safety. The legend is not something to mess with. We do not want it to happen like before. No one wants to relive that mess," said Brian.

"What is the legend, and what does it have to do with me?" I asked, trying to be free from the boys and understand what is going on with this new world, in which I find myself only this week.

"The legend is very hard to explain; there are a lot of rules and complicated situations. But it can be summed up by one set of twins: one boy, and one girl born of a beast and a witch. They will have the powers of both powers to change the world, and powers to fit in with the world. These twins will also have the ability to decide the fate of us both, beast and witches," explained Donny in a serious tone of voice.

"Witches?" I asked quietly.

"Yes, but there are stipulations to this. The parents must be in love for it to work. The children must be identical. And unfortunately, the last one is most difficult, the children must live apart for fourteen years, and, once together they must gain a sibling bond," added George as if he was a teacher.

I looked over to Sly and he seemed to know what they were talking about. "Has my life always been planned out before I was even born. Was this Fate? Fate that Mom died. I came here to live. I am a beast… Is this Fate?" I exclaimed.

"So, the Slechts

know that they can't take you away from us, as long as you and Sly don't have that bond yet," George said, ignoring what I said.

"Are you ignoring me… Is this Fate?" I yelled. Brian looked at me and then at the ground. "So, it is true," I said as I fell to my knees.

"Eve, I am sorry," Brian said, consoling me.

"So, what will happen if they do get me on their side…once Sly and I have that bond?" I asked, getting Brian away from me and confronting the problem head on.

"Well…the legend also states that the girl will decide everyone's fate. If she goes bad, then the witches will be killed off. Or if she stays good then the bad will rebel and there will be a battle. So, there must be the balance for life to be good," Marcus explained.

"Hold on, in the beginning, it said that twins of a beast and a witch, so it can't be Sly and I…right?" I asked, scared. "Mom wasn't a witch. She is normal."

"No, Ellen was a witch... one of the best witches that has ever walked the earth. And I am a beast. So, the legend is for you," Brian said proudly, making me kind of sick to my stomach.

"Okay, so what do we have to do? I do not want more death. I just want balance. And I guess this crazy world will have to be equal," I said, tired of the situation I found myself in.

"Well, first you and Sly need to have a sibling bond and connect with each other," Marcus explained so blankly. Sly and I looked at each other and I could tell that was going to be hard. "Then, we have to train you and Sly to accept the beast part and then the witch side, too."

"Is that all?" I asked, hoping for no other stipulations and anything else having to deal with fate.

"Yep, that is it," Marcus said with his left eye twitching.

"Okay, then let's get started," I said, remembering that Mom always told me to be happy no matter what to keep positive. So, I grinned and will have to bear it.

"First, let us eat, and then I will get into contact with your mom's family. Then we will get started on nighttime training. You need to learn to control yourself. And while Donny is making the food, you and Sly can work on getting to know each other," explained Marcus.

"I guess this makes sense as to why I never met my family on my mom's side," I said irritated. "How am I going to come to terms with this?"

"Well, you and Sly have a lot in common with the similarity of staying in the dark," Kenny said. I gave him a death stare with my dark eyes. He gave me a smirk and said, "There is the moon."

"I am not in the mood for you," I exclaimed.

"Anyway," Evan said cheerfully. "You have a lot to get caught up with since you are now just learning that you are siblings."

With that annoying comment, Donny said, "Come on, boys. Leave them alone."

Evan and John went with their dad and George went to the backyard with Kenny. I shook my head in aggression and disappointment. Marcus and Brian stayed in the living room. "Sly, take her to the family room," Marcus ordered.

Sly walked out of the room in obedience because I looked at Marcus in hatred and irritation. He instead looked intently at me and let out a low growl. "Go along," Brian said.

I glared at Marcus one more time and shocked my head. I turned away and could hear Marcus exclaim in irritation, "She needs to learn her place."

"Don't get mad at her," Brian said.

I was about to turn around and start an argument with Marcus, but Sly came around the corner of the doorway. "Just let it go," he said, leading me to the other room.

I let out a slight irritated growl. My instincts were telling me to confront Marcus and find out the truth. I had to control every fiber of my being to not confront Marcus and challenge him to his knowledge. Everything that had happened during this last week had changed me. I was no longer going to let things get by me. I was challenging everything I knew. I am going to fight fate and whatever higher entity is. I am coming for you.
