Chapter 18: Josh’s awakening

Temp looked at the control room of the awakening building, the fluffy orange building, to see the records for the new students. She skimmed through it.

"Oh! There's also a wind element magician? We have all kinds of skippers for the new batch huh?"

"Wait… Isn't this the late guy?"

Temp got curious and looked at the recorded video for the guy's awakening.

...

During Josh's awakening, everything became momentarily numb to him. Just like a lost lamb trying to find its home, Josh wanders in his memories for solace in the nothingness he is feeling.

"Josh, our Cloud family descends from the greatest mage in space element. His name got lost in time, but we are blessed to have his surname attached to our names."

"Your magic presence might not be much developed yet. But I'm sure, you are great! You are my son!"

"Don't look too sad… Here, I will show you my very first two spells when I awakened."

The man looked at Josh warmly, he patted his head then proceeded to an open space in a spacious garden.

The man narrowed his eyes, and he said,

"Tornado!"

A huge tornado formed, raising grasses into the air and rattling the closed windows.

The man then narrowed his eyes again, and in the next moment, the huge tornado decreased in size and strength until it's too small. He then approached it and, like playing with a toy, he made the small tornado spin in his arms.

"Josh, look, isn't it cute?" He then walked slightly hurriedly and handed the small tornado to Josh.

Josh saw two little arms reaching for the man's hand. The little arms held the tornado, the right arm caressed its sides while the left supported it on its bottom.

"Hahaha! You should see in the mirror how bright your smile is!" The man laughed lovingly while patting Josh's head.

"I have one more."

The man removed his shoes and on his barefoot, a mark is in it, a silver butterfly.

"Winged Foot"

Suddenly, the mark glowed slightly. His feet got covered in tendrils of wind, forming an outline of a tornado surrounding his feet.

He then stepped and disappeared in Josh's sight.

Josh looked left and right, but no one is there. Then, someone tapped him from behind. He looked behind, but no one is there. He looked at the front again, and the man stand there with a smile.

"Hahaha! I'm like teleporting, right? Hahaha! I'm just too fast for your eyes, son. Hahaha!"

"Hubby! Lunch is ready!" Someone shouted from the huge house behind Josh.

"Oh, let's go Josh" The man reached out to Josh.

The little arms tried to reach the man's arm, but before it touched…

...

"Eh?" Josh got out from his feeling of numbness, and he remembered muttering 'null'.

But he noticed something peculiar,

"W-why am I crying?"

...

Temp watched the video until the end and even saw Josh crying.

"Even I would cry in tears of joy if I suddenly became a skipper. But, oh well, I'm an evolved mage already…"

"But what's with mimic null? Shouldn't he have said 'wind'? Maybe he just muttered it inaudibly..."

"With three skippers, maybe we can win the competition this year." Temp said with a little smile on her face.

...

On the same night after Josh awakened, he dreamt of the same scene. But when he wakes up, everything vanished, and only two images retained in his mind

"Father's Tornado and Winged Foot… He sure has incredible first spells…"
