Chapter 3: First Catch

(MC POV)

I snuggle up against the warmth radiating off the fire as I look around me in the hopes of finding some shelter.

'There really isn't any type of shelter around here, I haven't encountered any type of camp set up around here so I can assume that the Viridian Forest is very large. I don't have any spare clothes, tent, basic supplies or anything even remotely helpful. No pokemon have appeared despite the fact that I cooked food here so it's probably safe to assume that there aren't any pokemon in Viridian Forest that are carnivores or hostile towards other organisms. I can also assume that all the pokemon in Viridian Forest are low leveled just like in the game.'

I outstretch my hand and psychic energy flows out from my body as this somewhat transparent pink aura.

'Strange, despite the fact that I can't touch it I know that it can physically hurt others. I should be able to make a physical barrier that can keep me safe throughout the night but that might not work due to needing to maintain focus to use it.'

I just shrug and put out the fire with dirt before going to sleep on the cold grass floor of the Viridian Forest.

After a unknown amount of time I wake up from the nudge of something crawling over me.

Opening my eyes I turn to come face to face with an ugly green bug that has a strange orange antenna and yellow circles along its sides.

I take it off me and put it back on the ground as it continues to move it's 4 little legs in confusion.

'Holy shit this pokemon is fucking stupid, I wasn't planning on catching a bug type in this forest but now I definitely won't.'

Standing up I look around and see a couple of pokemon, a pidgey sitting in a tree, 3 spearow eating berries and one small purple rabbit with a large horn and spikes along its back.

Raising my hand I use as much psychic energy as possible and I attempt to connect with the sleeping nidoran's mind.

'Do you want to become stronger? Do you want to evolve? Open your eyes and become my pokemon.'

[Host has gained a new skill, Telepathy, through the use of psychic energy.]

The nidoran wakes up and he slightly shifts his ears to see who was talking to him before he lays eyes on me.

'Follow me and become my pokemon nidoran, I'll make you much stronger than you are now.'

The nidoran ignores my offer and he charges at me with a tackle.

I point my hand at the charging nidoran and make a thumbs down.

'Down.'

The nidoran falls to the ground with a loud thud and I grab the first pokeball from my belt.

'Since you didn't want to comply I'll just catch you normally.'

The nidoran tries to get away but it fails miserably as it's level is low and it doesn't have the strength to escape.

With one throw the pokeball lands on the nidoran's horn and it enters the pokeball. With 3 shakes the pokeball makes a click to notify me that I successfully caught the male nidoran.

'Damn that was extremely easy but I'll make sure to train up this nidoran so it can take out Brock's rock type pokemon. I don't know whether it learns double kick at such an early level like in pokemon yellow but even if it doesn't I do have multiple plans to beat Brock.'

Taking the pokeball I tap it on the ground and the nidoran comes out again. The purple rabbit pokemon no longer tries to escape and it just obediently sits there.

"I understand that you may not want to be my pokemon but even so I have to have you as my starter. The first gym I need to beat can only be beat with your assistance so if you do comply and help me I promise I'll help you become a strong nidoking. Will you help me?"

"Ni-nidoran."

The nidoran nods it's head and I smile before taking out my pokedex and scanning it as a robotic voice comes out of the pokedex.

"Nidoran the poison pin pokemon. It's large ears are always kept upright. If it senses danger it will attack with a poisonous sting."

Taking my eyes of the pokedex I focus back on nidoran and the panel above it's head.

'Not bad at all, I plan to make this nidoran a mixed special and physical attacker so this isn't the worst nature I could have gotten.'

"Since your only level 3 you should only have 2 moves. I'm sure your wondering how I was able to push you to the ground without moving so I'll show you."

Picking up a rock I chuck at the pidgey nested at a tree and it immediately attacks me to prevent it from harming it's eggs.

"PIDGEY"

The pidgey tackles me and the nidoran tries to get in front of me but I just wave it off without concern.

With concentrated focus I move the remainder of my psychic energy and focus all of it on the flying pidgey.

'Freeze.'

The small bird freezes in place before falling to the ground unable to move. Looking back at the shocked nidoran I chuckle and point at the fallen bird.

"Nidoran use tackle and knock out the frozen pidgey."

My nidoran charges at the already incapacitated pokemon and knocks it out after a few tackles resulting in the pokemon leveling up. It runs up to me in excitement as he feels his strength increase from doing something so easy.

"Now that you've seen how I can help you become stronger do you want to become part of my team to beat the pokemon league?"

My nidoran nuzzles up against my leg as a form of agreement and I throw a pokeball at the knocked out bird.

With three shakes it clicks and I pick up the pokeball containing the bird pokemon while my a voice comes out of my pokedex.

"Pidgey the tiny bird pokemon. Very docile. If attacked, it will often kick up sand to protect itself rather than fight back."
