After Santichai was discharged from the hospital, he stayed at KK's house. KK kept Santichai in the master bedroom because it was easier for him to get up and use the bathroom.
Santichai watched KK put away Santichai's clothes, Santichai stared at KK's back. He couldn't help but think of when Asnee and he first moved into their apartment. It was the first time in his life that he had truly tasted love. That's when he made up his mind to spend the rest of his life with Asnee. Although their sudden happiness was short-lived, these were memories he didn't want to forget.
KK asked, "What time do you start class, I can drop you off." He didn't hear an answer, so he turned to look at Santichai. He walked over to Santichai and sat beside Santichai on the bed. "Santichai, are you thinking about him?"
Santichai shook his head and said, "I'm thinking, if happiness happens suddenly, will it suddenly disappear."
"Only if you suddenly want it to go away," KK said.
Santichai chuckled lightly, "I don't believe it."
KK said, "I'm not talking about him and you. I'm talking about you and me."
Santichai looked at KK and said, "KK, thank you, you are so good to me, I may have done a good thing in my last life, so I have the chance to meet someone like you in this life."
KK chuckled, "You could call it fate."
Santichai, "Fate?"
KK smiled and said, "Only fate can bring two unknown people together. Think about it. We don't even know we exist in this world." He smiled. "At the lowest point in our lives, fate brought us together." He grabbed the rest of the clothes, started sorting them, and started hanging them in the closet.
Santichai watched KK hang his clothes in KK's closet. He was thinking deep down why someone like KK would come into his life and be willing to give him a guaranteed place to stay in KK's heart. KK has done everything he could have dreamed of since they met. Suddenly, he was terrified that he would become addicted to this course of meal. Once he gets very addicted, this flavor of the food held by KK might slowly fades away.
Santichai asked, "KK."
KK replied, "Huh?"
Santichai said, "I don't believe in fate."
KK turned to look at Santichai, "Why don't you believe in fate?"
Santichai said, "If there was fate, I wouldn't be here and talk to you."
KK turned around and sat down beside Santichai. He smiled and said, "I'll tell you a story. After you listen to the story, you can judge whether fate really exists."
Santichai, "What's the story?"
KK chuckled and said, "There was once a very fat and ugly man who was bullied since he was a child. When he grew up, he realized that even if he was bullied, his parents, and grandparents loved him very much, so he continued to live without any friend. When he entered college, his grandparents passed away, leaving him everything they had. He was young and had so much wealth that brought him many fake friends. He was so happy that suddenly he has so many friends. He likes the night light and lives his life in the fast lane." KK laughed. "Because of other people's lies, he also gave himself encouragement. He finally had the courage to walk up to a very popular girl in college and ask her out."
Santichai asked, "What was her answer?"
KK said, "When she agreed, he was surprised. They had been dating for many years, and the fat ugly guy was deeply in love with his girlfriend. He loved her so much that he decided to propose to her." He paused for a long time.
Santichai, "She rejected him?
"She not only rejected him but told him that the only reason she was his girlfriend for so long was because she wanted what was in his bank account. She never loved him," KK said. He laughed. "With her words, the old injury wounds reopened, and the fat ugly man had a nervous breakdown. He decided to overdose himself and end his life."
Santichai was taken aback and looked at KK, "KK, why do you think ending your life will solve your problems?"
KK scoffed stupidity and asked, "You never thought about ending your life?"
Santichai shook his head and said, "Not once. I have encountered many difficulties and rejections in my life, but I have never thought of committing suicide." He slowly stretched out his arms held KK's waist and hugged him. "Even the smallest creature still loves life. The Buddha taught us to love life and that killing is a sin; especially killing yourself is the greatest sin because you made your parents shed tears for you."
KK kissed Santichai on his forehead, "I learned it the hard way." He chuckled. "My mother slapped me so hard, that slap woke me up."
"I'm glad," Santichai said, gently rubbing his head on KK's shoulder. "Thank you for being by my side when I was at my lowest point. Thank you for picking me up when I was down. Thank you..."
KK turned his head and kissed Santichai's forehead, "No need, thank you. Everything good that happened to you today started with a single tear."
Santichai chuckled lightly, "Now that you are sitting by my side, all the tears shed in the past are worth it."
KK said, "Don't sit for too long. Lie down. I'll get you something to eat. You can take your medicine."
Santichai, "Mmm."
Early in the morning, KK woke up to go to the toilet and found that Santichai was not in bed. He walked quickly out of the bedroom and into the living room. He stared at the morning light outside the window. He walked behind Santichai and held Santichai in his arms.
KK kissed the back of Santichai's head and asked, "What are you doing so early in the morning?"
Santichai said, "My back hurts. I can't lie down anymore."
KK said, "Let's go down to the beach and watch the sunrise together. Make it part of your morning exercise."
At the door, KK put Santichai's sandals on him, and they walked to the beach just a few hundred yards from KK's home. They walked down the shore, as the early morning sun rose over the sea. After walking for twenty minutes, KK could see from the way Santichai was walking that Santichai's back must have started to hurt.
KK said, "Today is enough. Let's continue our walk another day."
Santichai said, "KK, my back is starting to hurt. Let's sit here for a while."
KK smiled at Santichai and said, "It's even worse if you sit for a while and get up." He turned his back to Santichai. "Come on, I'll carry you back home."
Santichai said, "You are not being serious?"
KK lowered his head slightly, "Yes, I am."
Santichai looked at the distance from where they stood and the house. "KK, it's a long walk," he said.
KK said, "It will be fine."
Santichai jumped on KK's back and KK started walking slowly towards his home.
Santichai asked, "Am I heavy?"
KK said, "No."
"If you're tired, please let me know. I can walk slowly," Santichai said.
KK smiled and said, "You are not heavy at all, I can carry you for the rest of my life if you let me."
Santichai wrapped his arms around KK's neck and put his face on KK's shoulders. He murmured, "If this is a dream, then I never want to wake up again." He gently kissed the side of KK's neck.
KK smiled and said, "Me too."
