Chapter 64 Hidden Secrets

Sitting alone with a glass of red wine, Asnee watches the sunset over the red horizon, hugs the sea breeze that brushes his face, and watches the seagulls soar over the sea, wondering if this is the best place for his last day.

"I knew I'd find you here," Decha walked over to Asnee and sat beside Asnee. "What are you thinking?"

Asnee sneered softly, "I think I'd rather sit here on my last day watching the sunset and drinking red wine." He looked down at his glass. "It would be even better if Chai could sit with me here too."

Decha looked back at the house behind them, then at Asnee. He took the glass from Asnee's hand and said, "Ai Chai is acting very rebellion towards you, it's because you haven't told him yet?"

"Maybe it's for the best," Asnee said. "I'm dying and he's finally happy."

"I told you before, Chai is a simple man, and the way you show your love to him is too complicated for him to understand," Decha said.

Asnee smiled and said, "Frank, you don't understand. The way Chai cried when he was happiest, his eyes sparkled inexplicably." He smiled happily. "The sweet tears in his eyes were priceless."

Decha sighed, "However, over the years, you secretly created such a life for him, but no good things came out, your secrets hurt him and drove him away. Why complicate things? If you did come clean yourself, I still think you're still the old bastard who only cared about himself."

"I tried my best. Maybe, I chose the wrong way to approach my problem," Asnee said.

Decha put his hand on Asnee's shoulder. He sneered foolishly and sighed, "Why do I feel like a jerk? Sorry man. From the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry for everything I've done and said to you in the past." He looked at Asnee. "Should I tell him? If he knows this hidden secret, I don't want him to cut ties with me."

Asnee chuckled, "Frank, let him enjoy life. Didn't I say I would live a long life with him. No matter what I do or want to do, if KK can do it for Chai, I'm fine with it. It doesn't matter if it's me or KK, our purpose is the same, to bring joy to Chai."

Decha chuckled, "Chai said he was the unluckiest person, but in fact he is the luckiest person. You know, if Chai finds out about this in the future, he will be heartbroken, and maybe he will scold you and stomp on your grave."

Asnee sighed and stood up. He started walking into the house. "Chai had moved on, so let's rest it at that." Decha followed Asnee toward the open glass door. Asnee walks into the house with a smile, staring at the wall filled with pictures of him and Santichai, from when they were young to the last photo they took recently.

Decha looked at the many pictures on the wall and smiled, "Now I understand why you want me to secretly take pictures of you and Chai. You really don't plan to tell him? You know Chai will be sad if he knows about this later." He put his arm around Asnee's shoulders.

Asnee smiled tearfully, "As long as you don't tell him, he wouldn't know."

Decha sighed sadly, "Ai Nee, you refuse to fight for Ai Chai because of the tumor, right?"

"I don't want to be the middleman between Chai and my parents anymore," Asnee said. "Chai only saw the pain I caused him, and my parents only saw the pain I caused them, but none of them saw the pain they caused me." He sighed. "I've tried my best over the years, and I've reached my limit of exhaustion ... so I give up."

Decha looked at Asnee and he felt deeply sorry. He said, "Asnee, we've been friends for so long. You owe me so much over the years. I want you to pay me back."

Asnee turned to look at Decha, "What the hell are you talking about? I'm dying and I can't repay you."

Decha said, "You can."

Asnee said, "Fine, I don't want to owe you. Let us settle everything this lifetime. What do you want from me?"

"I want you to have at least one biopsy," Decha said. "If it's cancer, then if you don't want to treat it, then you don't have to treat it, but if not, then I want you to consider doing surgery."

Asnee, "Frank..."

Decha, "Ai nee, I'm your friend, and as a friend, I don't want to bury you before you're forty. Please."

Asnee sighed, "Alright, let's do the biopsy."

Decha waited until Asnee fell asleep before picking up the phone to call Mrs. Siriporn. Mrs. Siriporn picked up the phone immediately. Decha said, "Auntie...I've talked to Asnee."

Mrs. Siriporn asked, "Frank, did Asnee agree to the surgery?"

Decha said, "Auntie, I can't convince Asnee to have the surgery, but Asnee agreed to the biopsy. If the biopsy turns out to be non-cancerous, we still have time to convince Asnee to have the surgery."

Mrs. Siriporn sobbed softly, "Why is he so stubborn...I think, for now, that's all we can do."

"I've just spoken to Asnee and his will to live is no longer there," Decha said. "I'm worried he'll refuse treatment with or without a biopsy."

Mrs. Siriporn said, "Thank you...at least with the biopsy we will know for sure if we still have time, or we don't have time."

Decha said, "Auntie, would you let Chai talk to Asnee? Maybe Chai can convince Asnee to do the surgery."

Mrs. Siriporn said, "I don't want to talk about that right now. Let Asnee do the biopsy first and wait until the results come back."

Decha said, "Auntie, today, Asnee said something that I think is very true."

Mrs. Siriporn asked, "What did he say?"

Decha said, "Asnee said that Chai only knew the pain he brought to Chai. Aunt and uncle only knew the pain he brought to both of you, but you and uncle and Chai didn't know the pain you brought him. He got tired of being the middleman between aunts, uncles and Chai, so he gave up his will to fight the brain tumor." He paused for a moment. "If aunts and uncles can open up and let Chai and Asnee talk, maybe Asnee."

Mrs. Siriporn interrupted, "I will never allow it. Frank, I know you're worried about Asnee, but please don't mention that name in front of me again."

Decha sighed, "I'm sorry."

Mrs. Siriporn said, "When the appointment is made, I will call you to bring Asnee back."

"Okay," Decha said. He hung up and turned to see Asnee standing behind him. "Asnee..."

Asnee said, "Frank...did my mother ask you to come here?"

Decha said, "No, she didn't. I came on my own. Ai Nee, she is your mother, and she deserves the right to know where her son is."

Asnee said, "I'm here without telling her because I want to spend my last days alone. As a friend, please respect my decision."

Decha said, "I always respect your decision, but Asnee, she's your mother. No matter how she gets in the way of your relationship with Chai, she's your mother."

"I know...but I don't want her to control the last days of my life," Asnee said.

"As a friend, I wouldn't let anyone control how you should live during the last days of your life," Decha said. "That, I can guarantee."
