Chapter 5: Piano

Jeffrey was back to the present, nothing of significance has changed. After all his "ability" to travel back to the past was just fiction. The only difference between the past and now is that he's only gotten older with the addition of the words he spent time to type out.

"Time to let out some frustration", Jeffrey thought to himself.

leaving the computer Jeffrey went to play an instrument he was taught to play on back when he was a child. At the time he thought it was quite a terrible thing being forced to practice the piano, but many years later did he realize what it fortune he was given to learn such a skill.

As Jeffrey's hands started to hit the right white and black keys. He started to sing the lyrics

"Don't take yourself so seriously..."

"Look at you all dressed up for someone you'll never meet"

"You're here for a reason and you don't know why"

"You're split and uneven your hands to the sky"

"Surrender yourself and I wonder why I lay myself down to be build back up again"

"I hope somehow I wake up young again"

The thing about piano and music, like with most instruments. The first time you practice is always the most fun. However practicing the same piece over and over slowly loses that sense of freshness. So you find new songs to play, but the nice thing is that you can come back to it.

Bruno Mars, Tryhardninja, TheFatRat, Vigiland and some other artists music that had been transposed onto the notes of digital sheet music.

Returning to 2007

a young Jeffrey Zhang sat on the piano chair high above the ground. His legs dangled over the edge unable to touch the ground, which also included the pedals.

His small hands arched in a C shape pressing the keys of the piano one finger at a time.

The difficulty of looking at the music, knowing where to put your hands, and playing the right notes all at the same time was starting to frustrate him.

His hands weren't doing what they wanted to, he kept hitting the wrong keys and starting over.

"Why do I have to play on this stupid piano?", Jeffrey asked himself.

Every day he was expected to practice for an hour.

"An hour is so long and this music is so hard to play", Jeffrey thought to himself.

He'd been playing the same two songs for 24 minutes now and some parts the left and right hands were doing completely different things. How could he remember to press these three notes with his right hand while playing two notes with his left?

Sometimes playing fast, sometimes playing slow, but always playing the same pieces Jeffrey wanted to go and do something else.

15 minutes later, he placed the cloth on the keys of the piano to prevent dust from accumulating and closed the cover shut.

Running upstairs he went back to his computer and started playing video games.
