Chapter 27: Little drummer boys

Waking up and getting in the car Jeffrey instantly knew it was going to be a cold morning. As he stood out in the courtyard with his jacket, he wasn't the only kid getting his hands frozen.

Gavin, Ian and Steven were huddled around the concrete stairs. They had somehow found a piece of dry ice and Ian decided to pick it up with his bare hands.

Jeffrey walked up to the group

"Morning", Jeffrey greeted them

"Morning Jeffrey", Steven said.

Seeing Ian rubbing his hands in pain, Jeffrey asked "What happened?"

Noticing the smoky mist coming off a white chunk of material he added, "What's with the dry ice?"

Gavin replied, "Dunno, we just found it"

Ian asked, "My hands are so cold, is there a way to warm them up?"

They all stood around thinking for a bit.

Remembering some of his previous experiments, Jeffrey knew some minor tidbits about the school and certain classrooms being open. However, none of the teachers would be here this early.

Gavin mentioned, "Maybe we wait until the band room opens and we find Mrs. Browne?"

Ian said, "I'll probably just go to the front office."

Jeffrey for whatever reason thought about the boys restroom and how warm it was. The water was a bit cold, but it had an old button press blow dryer.

"Maybe go use the blow dryer in the restroom, that should keep your hands warm", Jeffrey mentioned.

Gavin added, "Yeah let's do that! That's a great idea."

Ian headed to the restroom and the loud blowing noise could be heard.

*WHRRR*

While he was gone, Jeffrey decided it was a bad time to try an sell Oobleck because it was too uncomfortable and cold outside for people to listen.

Thinking of the warm place, Jeffrey headed to the boys restroom not only to stay warm but perhaps it'd be a good place to sell it.

Jeffrey quickly headed inside to find Gavin, Steven, and Ian warming their hands.

It was a funny scene seeing six hands under the blow dryer.

Seeing as there were boys that headed inside but didn't come out other kids started to come in as well. Soon about 10 kids were inside a small two stall restroom hanging out.

Jeffrey started to sell his Oobleck and asked again a few of the kids that had rejected him before.

He sold 2 more jars. The whole atmosphere inside the boys restroom was really relaxed since they were all happy to not be stuck outside in the cold.

Somehow though a school administrator knew about them, came over and kicked them out.

"Don't play around in the school restrooms", he warned them and headed back to his cozy office.

He even locked the door that day and gave out a stern warning, plus the threat of detention.

They were stuck outside, waiting for school to start. Never had they been so eager to actually attend class, even if it was only band class.
