Jeffrey was busy with his website. It really wasn't that much to look at, various photos and text underneath. His first actual audience he showed it to, they weren't interested in the webpage. His friends reactions were understandable, but it was a big blow to his self-esteem and confidence.
"I've got a lot to improve haven't I?", Jeffrey thought to himself. Jeffrey received a dose of reality with the Dunning-Kruger effect making him realize that having a website wasn't enough.
Even if it look amazing, there was no entertainment or anything engaging. It looked nice, but the site as a whole was really just a functional shell. Similar to how one would visit to buy groceries at a grocery store, outside of buying things there was no real point in sticking around.
Jeffrey himself would probably be playing color my world or nevermore rather than working on the website if it wasn't for the fact it was part of his job and responsibilities at SK flowers.
"What can I do to improve this beyond just a digital store?", thought Jeffrey.
Jeffrey thought about making videos, but the storage and production costs were just too expensive. Usually only some government sites had that and those links took forever to load.
Soon the computer lab class started as their teacher Mr. Maunu started to discuss all the various features in microsoft word and powerpoint. Adding animations, changing font sizes, making punch cards and transitions, even some of the 2D morphing shape and code.
There were so many features that no one really used in the microsoft office and windows suite, that while you could do a lot of things with them. Most of the time, people just made simple presentations or write stories.
Jeffrey's grandmother was an avid writer and their family computer was full of journal entries with word documents and .txt notepad documents.
Jeffrey messed around thinking about adding a Skype and video call feature, although phone calls would work. It'd be a cool customer service and appointment feature, maybe throw in some virtual tours or something.
Usually website forums were messy and they just cost a lot to run. So Jeffrey wasn't going to use any for his sites.
"Wohoo!", a kid shouted out. Their computer lab teacher was furious. Looks like he got caught playing video games in class.
"Running a game portal site was interesting, being a webpage master. A lot of people played games online, but it just didn't make any money", his mother told Jeffrey.
Jeffrey thought it was best not to go down that route of adding games to a website.
"Was it really that important? Spending so much time on the digital world, there were so many things to do here on Earth", a stray thought entered Jeffrey's mind.
Jeffrey shook his head, he knew the internet would be big, just like people watched movies, tv shows, and anime. The question he really should be asking himself is, "What can I do? What can I make that people will want to see?"
Jeffrey thought long and hard about the path he wanted to take. He was unsure of what to do or even what he was doing would amount to anything. There were many worries on his mind, but he put them to the side. At the very least he wasn't doing it alone, he had friends to work with and as long as he kept at it, they'd follow him.
All Jeffrey needed to do was find the right direction. It's just that at this moment, he'd just a little lost on what path to take in this wild jungle of opportunities and the internet.
In one back corner of the room were two kids playing around with animation. The third kid next to him was downloading books and watching the movie, "The pirates who don't do anything".
As class finished, those kids had all grabbed the cds from the computers and placed them in plastic cases. A stack of them were inside their backpacks, written in sharpie were the words "Aeon Flux", "Flushed Away", "Katy Perry Fireworks".
On their computer screen was the picture of a cat with headphones.
