Smell Chase

Everyone had their own unique smell. Xiang Kun could sense it more clearly after his heightened sense of smell.

However, he had only woken up for a few hours that night and was still unfamiliar with different scents. Previously at the crime scene, he had thought about whether he could find the scent of the culprit and track the smell.

However, Xiang Kun lacked the source of the smell. At that time, the culprit should have left not long ago. There was still a lingering smell at the scene, but he could not distinguish it from the various scents. Or rather, there were too many options and he could not confirm it.

After the police arrived, the crowd at the scene increased, making it even harder to track them down.

However, Xiang Kun had heard the conversation between the police and knew that the murder weapon had not been found.

The murder weapon should have been stained with the victim's blood. From the scene, there was nothing used to wipe the blood off the blade, so the blood on the weapon should still be there. There was no time to deal with it, and the paper and cloth that was wiped off were still on the perpetrator.

Hence, Xiang Kun had an idea. He wanted to see if he could track the smell of the blood and find the culprit or the weapon.

The area where the victim's blood was most concentrated was naturally the previous crime scene.

However, Xiang Kun would not return there. Instead, he walked in another direction.

According to his judgment, when he saw the victim, the perpetrator would not be gone for more than three minutes.

Before Xiang Kun smelled the scent of blood, he did not see anyone suspicious. He also did not hear any footsteps running in a panic. It was obvious that the culprit had not fled in his direction.

After eliminating one side, the culprit still had two paths to take. However, one of the paths led directly to the main road outside. It was very lively there. There were still many pedestrians at this time and there were also many surveillance cameras. It was easy to locate them.

According to the way the culprit did not attack at the entrance of the ATM, but followed to a more remote area before attacking, it was unlikely that he would go there.

Therefore, Xiang Kun chose the remaining route and walked around.

However, he couldn't follow the scent of the victim's blood, because if he did that, he would definitely head towards the crime scene.

Xiang Kun was not discouraged. After all, he did not consider catching the culprit as his mission or responsibility. He was just trying to practice his tracking ability.

Xiang Kun imagined himself as the culprit. Every time he reached an intersection, he would subconsciously choose to move forward.

After walking for a long distance, the smell of blood at the crime scene was very weak. Just as Xiang Kun was about to give up on tracking, he suddenly smelled a faint, "familiar" scent mixed with all kinds of thick and mixed scents.

Xiang Kun immediately perked up. This was the smell of the victim's blood. Although it was so faint that it almost disappeared, it came from a different direction from the crime scene. In other words, he could find his target.

Following the smell, Xiang Kun walked back and forth for more than ten minutes and finally confirmed that the source of the smell was in an open rubbish bin.

The rubbish bin was obviously meant for the residents nearby. Some of the garbage bags that were used to store food were torn open. The soup, water, and food scraps were all over the place. As he walked closer, he could smell all kinds of pungent smells. Especially now that Xiang Kun had a stronger sense of smell, it was even more torturous.

He had to maintain his focus in order to keep track of the smell of the victim's blood.

Looking at the rubbish bin that was full of flies, Xiang Kun could not help but hesitate. He had no obligation to investigate the suspect, so why should he search the rubbish bin?

However, after hesitating for a while, he still wanted to see if his target was right. Was it something stained with the victim's blood? Could it be a murder weapon?

Xiang Kun sighed and went forward to chase away the flies on the rubbish bin. Then he started to search.

Before long, Xiang Kun found something stained with the victim's blood. It was not a murder weapon, but a pair of bloody cotton gloves.

Xiang Kun did not use his own hands to grab the gloves. Instead, he grabbed a bag of condiments from the side and sniffed it. He sneezed three times because of the pungent smell.

However, he could still sense the smell of a person from the stench.

It was the secretion of the sweat glands, skin glands, and other skin glands on his hand. The smell wouldn't dissipate so easily.

As for the smell of the victim's blood, it was needless to say. Even without smelling it, one could see the bloodstains on the gloves with the naked eye.

Xiang Kun hesitated if he should tell Officer Chen the location of the gloves. However, after some thought, he threw the gloves back into the rubbish bin. He did not call Officer Chen either. It was not easy to find an excuse.

Moreover, he felt that with the police's searching power, they should be able to find this place very quickly.

Of course, he hoped that the dumpster hadn't been cleared by the cleaner by then.

Although he had obtained the scent of the culprit, Xiang Kun did not find anything after walking around for a while. In the city, there were too many disturbances in both sound and smell.

The next day, Xiang Kun used the number given by Officer Chen to add him on WeChat and asked about the progress of the case.

He didn't have much hope at first because he knew that the police wouldn't reveal the progress of the case that they were investigating. However, he didn't expect Officer Chen to send him a photo.

The efficiency of the police's investigation was much faster than Xiang Kun had imagined. In just one night, they had confirmed the identity of the suspect!

According to Officer Chen, the suspect had just been released from prison in March and arrived in the city in April. Unexpectedly, a few months later, he committed a major crime and stabbed the victim last night. He was unable to be resuscitated and passed away in the early morning.

The photos and information of the suspect had been sent to the stations, airports, hotels, and hostels. Later on, the local television stations would release the news of the arrest. It was only a matter of time before they were caught.

Officer Chen also told Xiang Kun not to be rash if he saw the suspect. He could call the police or directly call him.

In Xiang Kun's opinion, the suspect was already in jail. In this day and age, there were cameras everywhere and people had to verify their identities and identity cards. Furthermore, he had committed a murder case, so there must be a lot of police officers chasing after him.

Since that was the case, Xiang Kun did not plan to follow the scent of the suspect. After all, this was a big city with more than ten million people. Without a clear range, it was like searching for a needle in a haystack.

However, Xiang Kun did not expect to meet the suspect before he was caught.
