Bidding

Richard POV.

After the music started, I stepped in and slowly slid onto the dance floor with Cathy in tow.

Miraculously, entering the dance floor transformed Cathy into a completely different person.

She was confident, graceful, and beautiful, like a queen living in an English palace.

From the moment she started her first steps, I couldn't help but be amazed.

Not only because of her skillfulness but also because her dance was so beautiful that all eyes were on her.

Her movements were light and fluid, and many of the difficult moves were perfectly executed by her.

She looked like an angel who had accidentally fallen to the earth, surrounded by a soft glow, dancing to her heart's content in a place full of flowers.

When the music stopped, there was thunderous applause as everyone clapped and cheered for her dance.

"Cathy, you've given me a big surprise." I looked at her with a smile.

A big surprise indeed.

I never imagined that a female doctor who couldn't even pay her mother's medical bills could dance such a difficult international dance.

It seemed that she had a lot of secrets hidden in her that I didn't know about.

Interesting.

Her cheeks flushed slightly from the strenuous exercise, and she struggled to calm her panting as she raised her face to look at me.

"I told you I wouldn't let you down." She said calmly.

I gave a satisfied smile.

After the opening dance, the auction, the main event of the charity gala, began.

Everyone entered the auction venue in order according to their pre-arranged positions.

With my status, my position was definitely in the front row, while Cathy sat next to me as my female companion.

There was nothing I really wanted to buy for this auction.

If there was something I wanted, it would be brought to me as soon as I asked for it, and there was no need for me to come here personally to auction it off.

Cathy's eyes kept following the jewelry or antiques on display, looking very interested in them.

In particular, she didn't take her eyes off the stage when a necklace set with pink diamonds was on display.

I tilted my head slightly and leaned in close to her to ask in a low voice, "What? You like it?"

As if suddenly awakened, she shook her head in panic, "No, no, I was ... just thinking about something."

I could tell she was trying her best to hide what she was really thinking, but instead of poking her, I just nodded slightly and stopped talking.

By this time, the pink diamond necklace was up for auction.

The starting price was $800,000, and the bidders would increase by $100,000 with each raise.

The necklace did not look very special, so not many people participated in the auction.

At first, there were a few bidders, but when the price was called at one million three hundred thousand, there was only one bidder left.

That was Cathy's ex-boyfriend, Danny, the guy I had just taught a lesson to.

I had noticed it from the first time he raised his bid.

With each additional bidder, he became a little more nervous and immediately raised his bid afterward.

It wasn't until the price was raised to one million two hundred thousand that he insisted on raising his card and adding one hundred thousand.

I purposely asked my assistant to gather all the relevant information about Danny and found out that he had come to the party for the purpose of this necklace.

Recently, Danny wanted to work with a big client, but this client had an eccentric personality and kept refusing to accept his visits. He has managed to learn that the client's wife is a jewelry collector and the pink diamond necklace being auctioned on stage is one of the items the lady wants from her collection.

Once Danny had won the necklace, he would be able to easily deal with the lady, and his partnership with the client would be half successful. Once the deal was done, he could make a huge profit and the $1.3 million for the necklace would be nothing!

In the business world, this is the most common tactic used if you want to close a certain partnership.

When Danny found himself the only bidder in the room, he couldn't contain his joy and his face was covered in smugness.

I hooked the corners of my mouth slightly, intending to make this plan of Danny's a little more difficult.

"Does anyone else want to bid on this necklace?"

At this point, the host asked loudly from the stage.

I casually held up the sign in my hand, "Two million."

The price I offered made the scene instantly start to boil over.
