Chapter 60 Life

Walking into the library, John saw that the main members of the group were discussing. Only the people who had been exposed were there however, Rick, Hershel, Carol, Sasha, and Glen.

John sat down as he listened in.

Carol said, "Two people died that quickly? We'll have to quarantine anyone that has been exposed."

Daryl said, "That would mean everyone in that cell block. That's all of us. Maybe more."

Hershel interjects, "We know this sickness can be lethal. But we don't know how easily it can spread from person to person. Is anyone else showing symptom that we know of?"

Carol says, "We can't just wait and see. We have children here."

Hearing this John nods as he says, "Carol is right. We need to find a way to stop the spared and we need medicine to help anyone that catches it."

Carol continues, "It's not just the sickness we need to worry about. If people die, they become a threat. We have many seniors living with us now, we need to be careful and set up precautions."

Hershel says, "We need a place for the residents of cell block D to go, they can't stay there. We can't risk going in there to clean it up."

Carol suggests, "We can use cell block A."

Glen questions, "Death row? I'm not sure that's much of an upgrade." John hearing this almost laughed out, he thought, 'Dude any place is an upgrade compared to being on the road.'

Daryl said, "It's clean. That in itself is an upgrade. Think that will work for Doctor Stevens?"

Hershel said, "I'll help Caleb set it up." Suddenly they are interrupted by a cough from outside the door. They walk over and watch as Tyreese and Karen walk through the hallway, Karen was coughing heavily.

Carol says to Karen, "You don't sound so good."

Ty says, "We're just going back to my cell so she can rest."

John says, "Didn't Rick tell you not to leave that area. We don't know what we are dealing with here."

Ty gets upset and starts stepping up to John, John's eyes were glowing slightly, and Ty was a little scared seeing them, but he wasn't backing down. It seemed the force was strong with this one, hmm.

But before John could beat the living hell out of Ty, Rick got between them and patted John's shoulder, he said, "Let's all calm down here. Sure, they didn't listen, but they haven't exposed anyone else yet, so it isn't a big problem."

John calmed down and said, "Sorry Ty. I just don't want this virus spreading around. I want my kids safe is all."

Ty nodded and said, "Sorry we didn't listen, I just wanted her to be more comfortable." The altercation stopping before it could even start, Ty and John backed off.

Hershel seeing this, said, "You guys should stay separated for now. We don't want this to spread around."

Ty and Karen nodded, the Ty asked, "How are we going to treat this?"

Hershel said, "I'll look through the medicine we have, but odds are we don't have the right medicine for this right now."

John chimed in, "That's why we need to take a group out and scavenge for some medicine, Daryl saw that medical school we could search there.

Ty then said, "If you're going for medicine, then I'm going with you." John nodded.

The group was about to leave when Karen said, "David from the Decator group has been coughing as well."

Hearing this Glen walked off as he said, "I'll go and get him."

Ty and Karen then walked off, with Sasha tagging along. John looked at Carol and saw she had an odd glint in her eye, she seemingly felt John's gaze and looked back at him. She then walked off in a hurry thinking, 'John sure has a strong gut, he always knows about how people will react.'

John then walked off with Daryl as they went outside. Daryl sighed and started to walk in another direction. Lighting a cigarette as he walked off. John looked at his back and thought, 'Daryl sure is a softy. Always worrying about people.'

John then realized that he had nothing to do, as he would usually just spend time with his family. John looked around and saw Carol down by the fence with two girls, they were around 12 or 13, maybe 14. John watched as Carol comforted the girls.

John attention was then taken by a pack of maybe 50 walkers that were pushing on the fence. The fence didn't even budge an inch, solid steel panels had been half buried into the dirt and were covering a good portion of the bottom half of the fence. This also gave a good amount of cover from and bullets that could be directed towards the base.

Anyway, seeing the pile up, John walked through the gate of the yard and grabbed a fire poker that had been sharped on his way through. John then walked through the yard over to a gate that had been made for quicker access to the walkway. John then began to mercilessly poke through walker heads. John turned around when he was done and saw one of the little girls running off.

John watched as Carol looked at the girl with a complicated gaze, but he turned around because a couple stragglers had come over as well when they heard the bodies sliding down the fence.

John then walked over to another section that had about 30 walkers and did the same thing. If the fences hadn't been fortified, they might be bending right now, hell with this number of walkers, they would have already trampled the fence down and gotten into the prison.

Rick and Daryl then came driving down from the courtyard in a big truck. John walked over to them and walked through the gate following them. They then moved the bodies into the trucks, some walkers came over to them every now and then, but Daryl would shoot them with his crossbow.

Like this they moved all the bodies away from the prison. When all the bodies were in a pile a good distance from the prison, they burned the bodies. Then they went back to the prison, and by then it was late afternoon. John walked into the cell block where Ty had gone and saw him sitting with Karen. It seems he just couldn't leave her alone.

John walked over and said, "Hey Ty, first thing tomorrow. We'll get some medicine; it will help Karen get better faster."

Ty said, "I'll join you tomorrow and we'll get back here as quick as possible after we get the meds."

John then asked, "Did Hershel find anything that could help her?" Ty shook his head somberly. John then took out a bow of some herbal tea and handed it to Ty. John then walked out as Ty nodded at him in gratitude.

When it got late, John checked how his family was doing before he went to his tower. John didn't sleep that night, instead he created some plans to increase the area of the prison and made some designs of how he wanted a neighborhood to be built. But all of that had to wait until they increased the perimeter of the fences.

John planned for hours and eventually the sun was rising.
