The Reaper

"Who is talking?" Thought Khas to himself. He had no idea where he was. He only heard the voice of someone talking. "Back and forth, back and forth and you still are stuck in here. What are you doing?" The voice said. It was the voice of a woman, a soft and, at the same time, cold voice.

"Please stop. This is torture... Why did it have to be..." Before he could finish his sentence he was interrupted by the voice:" You can't afford to disappoint me again, understood, Khas?" with those words coming from the voice he fell asleep.

A girl woke up from her sleep, and with the help of her attendants, she got ready for the day. The girl is the princess of the Kingdom of Volafsfia. As she walked down the hallway she looked out the window at the tower of the Great Sage. At the same time se reached for her chest and put on a pendant with a scythe carved on a blood red crystal.

She reached the throne room and asked: "Did you summon me grandfather?"

"Yes. We have a dilemma." The old king said. As the princess was getting ready to ask her question, she heard an unfamiliar voice behind her.

Khas has awoken in the middle of the forest surrounded by knights clad in a black armor. As he came to be, his senses were returning and he could see the things surrounding him. The trees were burnt down, there were corpses of beasts he didn't recognize and multiple scars on his body.

The knights made way for a witch to step forward and start casting; the witch's chant was long and would occasionally summon scythes around Khas. After she was done casting, chains enveloped Khas and restrained him.

He could see and hear everything around him, so he watched as he was taken to a city and closed in a dungeon.

Near midnight he had it with the sound the seal made constantly, and broke it. The Great Sage, the witch that created the barrier, noticed this and rushed over.

She arrived at a scene she found hard to believe, Khas was standing around with a short sword black as night itself in his hand.

Khas noticed her, raised the sword and made it disappear and approached: "Would you be so kind as to tell me where am I?"

The witch was surprised and said:" I am Iris Montgomery, The Great Sage of this city, we are currently in the capital of Volafsfia." She was scared as the seal was so strong that she would've taken 3 days to break it. The individual before her was stronger than her.

"I am Khas, the Void Walker. I am a reaper." He said with a straight face. He then raised his hand, closed his eyes and summoned a scythe the same dark black as the short sword.

Iris was in disbelief. The reapers were all extinct, not only that, but the young man presented himself with the name of the strongest reaper. The Never Ending Void, Khas.

"As far as I am aware, your country is the only one that still acknowledges reapers. I need to talk to the monarch." Khas cut to the chase. "Either you take me to him or I go there myself. Sorry if I'm harsh, but I would like to get to work, then make friends."

The next moment Khas was waiting outside the throne room. He saw a girl walk past him holding an amulet. 'Odd she didn't notice me...' After she entered, a guard gave him permission to enter. "I am the dilemma."

Khas walked in and stated. He then raised his hands above his head and cast a spell, the magic circle was glowing blood read behind him showing runes describing a desolate place, devoid of all, where everything is.

"Among your family is the daughter promised to me by your successors." Khas stated, after which he lowered his hands and the magic circle broke apart. "I won't kill her, nor will I take her away. I was promised an apprentice and I've come to train her." He saw the girl from earlier as she slowly backed away and looked in shock at her grandfather, who was the one that made the promise. "I know it is earlier than agreed, but we have only 2 choices. Alter the terms of the contract or fail to protect this land from them." Said Khas as he stared coldly at the king.

"The True Reapers are coming, they will reap all life. Only me... Only The Voidwalker has enough strength, and we have to train her." Khas then looked at the princess and asked "Will you accept being trained by me, or will you let me scramble together a half-assed solution that will fail, Ash?"

"Where did you hear that name from!?" Ash was scared. That was the name her mother told her to take upon when a being of another world will come for her.

Ash's father was furious. Not only a stranger came demanding his daughter, but he also claimed he is a reaper. "How dares a lowly thief come here and SAY SUCH THINGS" he shouted. He then started casting a few spells and jumped at Khas with terrifying speed.

Khas, unlike the others saw everything happening very slowly. To him time was relative, it didn't matter. He calmly raised his hand forward, to stop the attacker, then, without casting, a magic circle with a diameter a little bigger then him appeared behind him. From it three snakes crawled forward and bit Khas' hand. Ash's father realized to late, he offended the wrong person, as his magic dissipated and he fell, looking in fear at Khas.

"Don't kill him! Please... Don't" Ash said as tears flooded her eyes... After she wiped her tears she looked forward to see her father standing before Khas, apologizing. "Eric, count of Volafsfia, all though you failed and have been removed from the position as a heir, you are still as impulsive as ever." said the old king. "He is still my son. Even if you don't kill him, scaring him like this leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Okay, Khas?" The old king was calm and didn't order Khas around, but rather he talked as if he met an old friend.

"Charles, your son is clearly in the wrong here... Nah, I'm joking. Look at you Charles, even though you went through all that trouble you still only prolonged you life by a couple millennia." said Khas amused.

"You talk about it like its not a long time. What luck you have. And I guess Ash as well. She will have the chance to become fully immortal too, unlike me." said the old king.

Khas and the king had history. Charles was originally his apprentice, but he failed Khas. He gave in to emotion and massacred a village, then negated his action. So Khas made him post mortalis.

"Come on. Until tomorrow I will wait for an answer." said Khas as he was turning to leave.
