chapter 3: the quest

**** Steve P.O.V.

I walked up to a street vendor that was selling eggrolls on the corner of the street.

" one eggroll with a little extra chili pls" I ordered the vendor to which he nodded as he started preparing the eggroll.

" since when do you selling your product here? it looks like it's very popular with how many people are buying from you." I asked the vendor as I looked around the place to observe 8 to 9 people eating the eggrolls on the benches.

It looked like the vendor liked the praise as he laughed heartedly and replied," these people are all loyal customers of my little shop. it has been 4 years since I started making eggrolls on this street. how about you, young man? you looked like you are here for a reason. "

" well, if you can please point me to where is Samuel's weapon shop that would be very helpful," I asked embarrassed as I receive my eggroll from him.

he nodded and told me the direction to the destination and thankfully it's not that far from here. I said my thanks to him and moved on the road that lead my path toward my destination.

I finally found the shop that I was looking for, it was a single-story building with a hammer and anvil crossing each other as symbols on the front of the shop. I entered from the small door and found myself in a store that looks more like an antique shop than a weaponry shop. It was not like there were no weapons on display but they looked more like antiques than just made weapons. A man in his late 20s was sitting in the reception that looked at me like I was an eyesore in this shop which made me a little bit uncomfortable.

"what do you want, kid? we don't sell weapons to people so young unless you are a prodigy that you are not with how you behave," he grumbled as he waved me to leave.

" I don't need an actual weapon, my old practice sword got broken during my travels so I'm looking for a good wooden sword. my mentor recommend visiting Samuel if I ever needed weapons or needed some help related to them so I came here first." I said to him as I observed the weapons shown on display. while they looked like they were made years ago, they still looked beautifully crafted to kill only. Not a single one looked like an ornament, there were simple but effective.

" So you were recommended by an old customer of my master, huh? what do you think, every single one can kill you in multiple ways in seconds but you don't look skillful enough to handle them. come with me, I think some good wooden swords were sitting in the back that I carved while practicing the shape." he told me as he walked towards the back of the shop.

I walked behind me to reach a room which I assumed must be a storeroom with all the material sitting around in it. He rummaged around in it to find some wooden swords and showed them to me.

" pick anyone that you like, all are 50 cols a piece," he told me as he waited for me to choose.

I looked at the swords that all looked the same to me, shaking my head I gave all of them to him and said," I don't which one is good or bad. I rather have you choose one for me. "

he raised an eyebrow as he began choosing one for me," what if I gave you a bad sword?"

"The probability of me choosing a fine sword between these swords and the probability of you being a good person is almost the same so I rather have you do the work instead. And I believe in my mentor's judgment. " I told him as I received the sword that he picked for me. I gave him 50 cols as he requested and exit the store after saying thank you.

I looked at the pamphlet that miss Agatha gave me as this would be my next destination. according to the address written on it, it was situated in the area near inner town that houses branches of many famous guilds and it was the most popular part of the outer town.

' let's see if I can find a job at this restaurant, working at a restaurant doesn't sound as bad now that I think about it.' I thought as I searched the given location on my phone so I can find it more easily. sadly the weapons shop was not added to the map otherwise I wouldn't have to ask around to reach it.

the area truly holds to its claim. streets are cleaner than everywhere in the town and the only supermarket in the town was situated here too. it took me 30 minutes to reach the mentioned restaurant on foot from the weapons shop. it looked really popular too, I wondered if there was any job remaining for me.

I asked the worker welcoming the customers at the gate," excuse me, I received this pamphlet seeking people willing to work at your restaurant. I wonder if there is still any post available for me?"

he looked at me from top to bottom and then smiled apologetically as he said," there is one but I don't know if you liked to accept it. "

"what do I have to do?" I asked curiously as I opened the way for the customers to pass.

" Why don't you discuss it with our manager, the receptionist could guide you to her. I think it would be more appropriate if you discuss it with her.", he said as he pointed me toward the receptionists sitting on the inside.

I nodded to him as I entered the restaurant, it looked pretty neat to me. I slowly walked toward the reception as I get a feel of the restaurant. before I said something, one of the receptionists nodded at me and told me to follow her toward the back in the staff area, I followed her as she lead me to the manager's office.

she knocked on the door and said," Ma'am, someone came looking for the job after looking at the pamphlet."

"Please enter " a voice came from the inside.

I thanked the receptionist as I entered the office when suddenly I received a quest from the system.

it was directly imprinted on my eyes so that I could observe it without accessing the watch.
