People were afraid of the unknown since time memorial and I was no different. If I didn't find the main character early on, my independent actions could unknowingly negatively affect him/her.
I didn't want that to happen at any cost because if something like that happened then I have to deal with the side effects of that too.
Worst case scenario, the main character dies and we lose our hope to get out of future troubles in the plotline.
I was not prepared to replace the main character at this moment at least.
Honestly speaking, I am a little jealous of other protagonists in the light novels I read in my past world. They get cheats as soon as they transmigrated into another world.
If they don't get it as a gift at the start, they could get one because of their knowledge about the plotline.
Why do I feel like I became a chess piece of some sadistic author? All I got is this lazy cat that's more than what meets the eye but didn't want to do anything helpful.
I feel like I am walking blindly on a highway waiting for the truck to hit me.
Thinking about all of this is so exhausting for my brain cells.
Steve sighed," let's take some rest. I will not be achieving anything like this."

The last few days were spent getting hang of this environment.
"This is not as bad as I thought it would be." We were walking to the cafeteria as I spoke that.
"What?" Patricia raised a questioning eyebrow.
"School life. It is not as bad as I thought it would be. I have been living alone most of my life traveling to places. I didn't get to have any long-term friends of my age so I expected to be left alone at the start but thankfully I had you to accompany me."
She rolled her eyes," Buttering me will not have any effects today. I will not give you my pudding so stop it."
"Yeah, that..." I sighed sorrowfully.
"My weapon teacher instructed me to stop eating things like that daily if I want to master that weapon."
She giggled," It was not me that chose such a complex weapon. Now suffer the consequences."
"I had no choice, it was most compatible with my powers. I couldn't have but feel tempted to learn it."
"Then you shouldn't complain about it. Every action has its consequences and if you feel that weapon will further perfect your fighting style then go for it with all your heart." Patricia could be really convincing sometimes.

"Let's see." I leaned back in my chair after I completed the list.
"First of all, the scope of my search is too big right now. I need narrow it down first." I couldn't search the entire academy since it would take too much of my time and I couldn't afford that.
I narrowed it down to just my semester as the probability of the protagonist being in the same year as mine was very high. How did I come to this conclusion, you ask?
All the games and novels that I have read with similar plotlines have the same scenario. The real protagonist of the book would be in a similar grade as the transmigrated protagonist.
And even if I didn't find the protagonist this way, I could still expand the radius of my search later on.
But it was highly unlikely that I would have to do that, considering that my grade has a lot of influential people this semester.
"Now all I have to do is wait for him to appear." While my objective was to find the protagonist, it was like finding a needle in a haystack. I didn't prefer to do the hard work, smart work was a much better choice.
All I needed to do was observe these few influential people in my grade and wait until someone unusual started to interact with them.
As most story goes, the MC of the story makes either enemies or friends with characters like these and then becomes the focal point of view for other people by showcasing their skills.
***Next day
"Today we will have a practical class to test your capabilities. You will be taking this class with other sections of freshmen year. The objective of this class is to test how much do you know about survival. "
"You don't need to worry about your grades as it will not be reflected in your grades. " As soon as professor dumbbell finished speaking, he left the classroom and returned with two assistants that were pulling a trolley full of helmets.
"What are those?" I turned to ask Stella.
"Virtual helmets. these are connected to the mainframe in the academy and let you immerse in virtual reality." Her eyes were sparkling with excitement.
In a few minutes, we all had one helmet on our desk.
"Put on these helmets and they would take you inside a virtual test ground designed for your class today. " The professor had one of his own that he used to describe how to use the helmets.
"You might feel a bit of discomfort at first as your senses moved to your virtual avatar and you lose control over your real body. Don't be afraid, you will get used to it very quickly. "
"Now, let's discuss the rules of your class today. First things first, you will be moved to a 10 km diameter circle full of different terrain. You will not be alone. You will be part of a team of 5 personnel selected randomly."
"Your mission is to survive for 8 hours without being killed. Since this is all happening in virtual reality, we could make it so that you don't feel pain but we have decided against it. You will feel 1/10 of the pain that you feel in the real world."
"There are many beasts in the virtual reality that would attack you if they feel threatened or if they are naturally aggressive. "
"Now we also thought that survival shouldn't be your only goal in there so we have also left a few pearls the size of your palm hidden somewhere in there. Those who can get their hands on them would receive bonus points. And that reminds me, there will be a ranking of teams that performed well. "
"We will not announce how the rankings would be decided right now. Now, wear these helmets and relax your body. It's about time we get started. "
Everyone wore their helmets and leaned back on their chairs.
