Medecine After Death

"I have brought half of the money, sir,’’ Adebayo said to the DPO as he barged into his office, breathing hard, without showing any pleasantry. His mind was too far away to remember that. He had no wrist watch; he would have known the 24 hours given him as ultimatum has lapsed 4 hours past. "I think my son is still in the cell?’’

The DPO was silent, looking so bitter and disappointed. Adebayo’s eyes mistakenly caught the words written boldly in white paint on the yellow painted wall beside the DPO. It read thus: POLICE IS YOUR FRIEND.

Adebayo smiled wryly and said in his mind, "police is our friend? I doubt that. Its better they’d written POLICE IS YOUR FRIEND OF FOE. That means a foe pretending to be friend.…’’

"You see, Mister Adebayo…’’ The DPO’s voice interrupted Adebayo’s thoughts but soon faded away. He heaved heavily again.
