Loud boo and cheers echo all other the arena, boo from the higher ranking family towards Davis, cheers for David to teach this lowly one a lesson, better still clear the academy of trash like him since its now a death match. Joe having know Davis and his determination felt helpless, layla the census of the fend between Davis and David became intrigue with Davis personality, she found it somewhat
not ready to lower his head without a fight, knowing fully well he might lose his life catch her fancy, I like such personality with outstanding integrity, too bad he is from a low grade family, I would have given his proposal a thought. I will step in when things get too bad, for now I should allow him taste defeat first, so he would know how to lower his head and save his life in the future. She thought to herself. Her chick turning red.
The instructor in charge commence with the challenge after receiving confirmation from the high up, standing at the stage he calmed the crowd why gesturing for both Challenger's to get ready for their match. Getting the acknowledgement from them that they are set he declared the match to begin.
David as usual waste no time, he want to end Davis life as fast as possible, he couldn't wait a second more, conjuring two huge fireball with intense heat. he hauled it at Davis standing directly opposite him, been a rank six apprentice mage with mid grade spirit root, conjuring two fireball is a walk in the park for him. At the sight of the huge fire ball everyone knew Davis was done for, there was no was he could withstand those fireball, emptying his mana pool to conjure an earth wall might help if its just one fireball coming at him, but two is a no way for him. Joe hand his heart run up his mouth seeing the fire head towards his best friend.
Do you really have to go through all this just to prove you point, why not endure it as one taking a bitter pill, it doesn't hurt to lower your head when there is nothing else you could do. Joe thought shutting his eyes, he can't watch his friend get mauled before him again.
Back at the stage the instructor gave a pitiful look at Davis seeing what is heading his way, he couldn't help but mouth to himself.
"This kid really don't know when to quit, such a waste. Anyway he is doing the academy a favour of clearing trash so true mages will remain"
Davis the center of all this kept a carefree expression seeing the fireball, it was as if he was not the one the fireball was hauled at causing the Dean to mock him thinking he had given up when he saw the difference of what power truly meant.
Just when the ball is to hit Davis he conjure a fire shield right in front of himself, at such the fireball hit the fire shield cause explosion to ring out in the stage, pushing Davis some back from the impact, shockwave of the explosion spread in the other direction of the shield, hitting David back also.
(Silence)
Every single person in the arena was speechless, the Dean didn't know when he stood up from his sit. The instructor at the stage put out the water mana he spread all over his body due to the heat shockwave that spread out in the stage. His expression is no different from the Dean. He was closed by, he saw everything first hand. Using fire to fight fire. He as a mage knew how difficult it is to shape elements, it takes a lot of mental energy and will power, its constrain on the spirit root too. How on earth did Davis pull this off, wasn't his elemental affinity earth, why fire shield.
This was the same question running through everyone head too, David not excluded. Joe whose eyes has been shut not to watch his friend mauled could help but open his eyes due to the bizarre silence, turning around to see what is going on he notice everyone was starring intently at the stage without a word, seeing this he felt maybe Davis has met his end too soon than expected causing this reaction in them, he decided to see for himself, turning to the stage his eyes widen and jaw slackened from the sight before him.
What is going on, how come Davis is standing there perfectly fine, not that am not happy seeing him in one piece, but it too unexpected, is that fire shield am seeing, isn't his element earth. Am I seeing things, this most be my thought or maybe a dream. Its definitely a dream, I must have slept off during the process of shutting my eyes not to see the fight. Yes that must be it.
"Is this what the might David can do, I was expecting something more, guess I overestimated your worth. I will have to do some reevaluation for that" I taunted David with hefty laughter echoing from me, extinguishing the fire shield.
Hearing that statement was like a trigger for David, conjuring another set of fireball he hauled them over again but the result play out same. Now everyone down the stage don't want to blink at all, they are afraid of missing out on a single moment of this match.
Hauling more than ten fireball in total David change is fight tactics into close combat, running toward Davis head engaged in a hand to hand combat. Davis welcome the change also, the battle turned to fist and leg fight. Fire ball going off once in a while from david when there is an opening for it. Davis stood completely on defensive all through. Fight this way for some time. Davis went on offensive. Conjuring fire shield to welcome David fist punch he distant himself from him. Switch from fire shield to fire whip, he sent it without a care toward David. Not expecting that David took the full brunt of the whip. An howled cry rang out from David, pulling further away from Davis, burnt mark spread across his chest.
"Where do you think you are running to, am not done with you yet" Davis sent fireball after him.
Feeling the heat approaching him, he jump to the side allowing the fireball to pass by him narrowly, while returning one of his too. Which Davis evaded with ease.
"You can admit defeat if you want to, I might let all this go" David try using intimidation to make Davis surrender, he could see that if this battle draw on he would be the one losing
"Admit defeat, that was suppose to be my line, I could do a lot of things you know but admitting defeat is one of them. You do have some quick wit there David, I really admire your sense of battle, I have to end this battle now. Saying this Davis conjure fireball three times bigger than that he had sent out before. The heat from this fireball was so intense that those under the stage step backward, the temperature in the arena sudden became hot, cause other to spread mana to cover their body in an attempt to reduce the heat.
The Dean and instructor knew for sure that David has no means to stop this attack, David also new he is no where close to taking that attack head on, all his sensing are screaming run to him and his hair standing on end.
"I admit defeat, I give up"
"Too bad it a death match and am not ready to let you go"
Upon hearing Davis reply to David surrender they became helpless, true to it, its a death match, it only come to an end with one person walking out of the stage.
The instructor turned to the Dean for help, they can't stand watch, losing a mid grade talent for a low grade one, though that has to be question now if truly it's low grade, using skills that apprentice mage aren't capable of with just a rank 5 stage is beyond questionable, they still can't let David die. In reply to his look the Dean grit his teeth obvious been tongue tie on this matter.
To much bullying had turn my tender and loving friend into a monster, what a world, I will do same if I get the chance, this people sure deserved it, but.....? Joe sigh, he couldn't tell if he knew his friend anymore.
Increasing the size of the ball once more Davis prepared to haul it over, raise the fireball above is head every knew it over, David prepare himself for the worst closing his eyes he await his death.
Just went everyone was holding in their breath seeing Davis hands in an hauling motion, the fireball disperse.
*silence*
Another round of silence occur in the arena before an uproar of cheer set in, the Dean and instructor let out a breath of relief. David how had been waiting for his death open his eyes only to see Davis starring back at him with a smile. His eyes became watery, he could not believed the person he had bullied for so long decide to let him live. With tears running down his cheek he walk up to Davis, hugged him and apologized.
"Davis am so sorry, am so so sorry, can you forgive me?"
