[13.2] Making A Creature 101

Caldwell brushed himself off and stood up proudly, "Young miss! You're late for class. My young master has been waiting patiently outside to take you to class!!!"

Patiently my a**!

As Caldwell pulled me out of bed I cried out, "B-But it's still the weekend!"

He raised an eyebrow in confusion, "Young Miss… It's Monday, not Sunday."

"WHAT!? What happened to my last day of freedom!?!"

Zephyr watched me with a malicious grin, "You slept that entire day away."

"IMPOSSIBLE!" I sobbed, "Give me my weekend back…"

Zephyr rolled around laughing while in his fox form, "HAHAHAHA! You thought it was still the weekend!!"

I want to cry…

Caldwell clicked his tongue, "Disgusting fox."

Zephyr sneered at him, "Watch out you filthy owl. Foxes love to eat owls."

A terrifying smile crossed his face, "And owls love to eat foxes. Especially little baby ones~"

Zephyr shrieked and covered himself up, "P-Pervert!"

Caldwell rolled his eyes, "I'm not interested in babies who haven't grown their adult hairs. Plus, foxes smell disgusting."

He moved to my side, "Now little Reika. Let's get you dressed."

I stepped away from him, "I-I really can do this myself."

He smiled gently, "Oh, don't act so frightened. I don't like women in that way. Especially children. I have some morals."

"Wait, you're-"

"-A servant sent to help you get ready. Now hurry up!"

I smacked away his hands, "I don't need help! I'm perfectly capable of dressing myself!"

He tilted his head, "Why are you acting so strange? Haven't you ever had a servant before? It's common for them to help you get dressed."

I shook my head, "Nope. Never. I was poor, Caldwell."

He flinched, "Oh I see… Then… I will just wait here."

After I dressed in the privacy of my lavish bathroom, I came out to see Caldwell inspecting my closet packed full of dresses. The Headmaster used a magical spell to make the closet bigger on the inside because he kept buying me more dresses.

I really have no idea why he kept on buying me these things. I haven't even had the opportunity to wear half of them.

I walked over to Caldwell, "What is it?"

He tapped his chin, "I was just realizing I never put the young master in a dress before…. He's so adorable, I bet he would look really cute in one."

A malicious smile crossed my face, "...Do you want to borrow one of my dresses to put him in?"

His face lit up, "Can I really!?"

I nodded quickly, "Definitely! But you need to let me watch."

He shook my hand in excitement, "I will!"

Heh. This will be payback for his constant pestering!

Zephyr watched the two of us judgmentally, "You're both psychos."

I frowned at him, "Keep speaking like that and you will also be wearing a dress."

He shut his mouth immediately and pretended to go to sleep.

Caldwell leaned over and whispered into my ear, "We should still put him in a dress."

I grinned maliciously, "Oh, we will."

Zephyr jumped, "You better not!!!"

After using my ice-levator to move down the stairs, we went outside to see Cyrus kicking a stone with his foot. When he noticed me, he stood up straight as if he was diligently waiting the entire time without slacking off. As we walked to class, he spoke, "Are you excited for class today?"

My frown twitched, "Why would I be excited? I didn't think I had to go today at all."

He chuckled, "Well, today will be fun. Today you get to choose which afternoon specialty class you want to take for the rest of the year."

"Specialty classes?"

He nodded, "Yeah. You can take either potions class, crafting class, and combat class."

"Which class do you take?"

"Combat class." He paused and looked at me timidly, "...Why are you asking? Do you want to take that class with me?"

I shook my head, "Nope. I'm only asking so I can avoid it."

He deflated, "Oh… I see."

Seeing his pitiful expression, I felt a bit guilty. Felix noticed us in the halls and rushed over, "Good morning!"

Cyrus nodded at him, "Good morning, Felix."

Felix looked at me with a grin, "Good morning, Reika. Did you put the flowers on your bedside table?"

I forced a smile, "I did."

He giggled, "Did it give you pleasant dreams?"

I mumbled to myself, "I wouldn't classify it as pleasant."

He tilted his head with a smile, "Hm? What did you say?"

I spoke with a forced smile, "I said that it did."

He clapped happily, "Great! I will grow you more!"

How wonderful.

I changed the subject immediately, "By the way Felix, what specialty class do you take?"

"I take potion's class. Why?"

I grinned, "I guess I'm going to take crafting class then."

Caldwell chuckled and nudged Cyrus, "At least she's not just avoiding you."

Felix puffed out his cheeks in a pout, "Why don't you want to take a class with us? Do you… Hate us?"

Seeing his teary expression, I felt a twinge of guilt. I looked away from his puppy dog expression, "It's not that… I just think crafting class is best. I bet I will be a natural at crafting since I'm an award-winning artist."

Cyrus looked at me in confusion, "Award-winning?"

Felix's eyes sparkled with admiration, "Whoa… You really can do it all!"

I rubbed my nose arrogantly. Children may be annoying, but they are easy to impress.

Cyrus, however, wasn't impressed. He rolled his eyes, "Don't feed her ego."

After a boring day of morning classes, Cyrus escorted me to the crafting class. The teacher smiled at me, "So you're a new student?"

I nodded, "Technically."

A student spoke up, "She's not new! She's the one who tried to blow us all up!"

Judging from their frowns, they haven't forgiven me yet.

The teacher immediately looked displeased, "Ugh. Since the Headmaster is allowing you here, you must not be that dangerous. You can stay, but you better behave."

I nodded with a grin, "I'm the most behaved person you will ever meet."

Of course I will behave! I don't want to be in a class with those other two brats!

She motioned to a strange block, "There's a free furnace there. Go ahead and take a seat."

I sat down by it and looked at it in confusion. It reminds me of a smaller furnace from ceramics class.

As I poked it, the teacher spoke to the class. "Today we will learn how to make a box which can fit larger items without changing its shape. First, take some wood and nail it together. Now infuse your magic into the box with a wood carving tool. If you get confused, the insignia for the spell is on the board."

I rubbed my hands together. This actually seems fun! I think I might like this class!

I looked at the people beside me and started copying their actions. After decorating the box to be rather cute, the teacher walked over. She froze, "What… What is that?"

I held my box up proudly, "It's my box. I added some decorations to the outside."

"Why would you add skeletons?!"

"...Those are flowers."

"They don't look like flowers."

I crossed my arms in irritation, "It was my first time using a wood carving tool! But if you look at my sketches, you'll see how skilled I am."

She looked at them with a nod, "Yes. Your sketches are very detailed and beautiful, but your carvings are not. No matter. It may look like a curse, but the insignia is correct. Put it in the furnace to activate it."

I frowned, "But it's wood. Wouldn't it catch on fire?"

She shook her head, "This furnace is specially designed to turn everyday items into magical items. It's not an actual fire."

I shrugged and did as she asked. After a while, she nodded, "It should be good now. Pull it out carefully… Okay, now put in your items."

In front of me were silverware, pens, and a book. I opened the box and placed in the items then closed it. She looked surprised, "I can't believe it worked."

I rubbed my nose, "See? I told you it would work. I'm a natural at this stuff."

She let out a relieved sigh, "After you nearly exploded the Academy, I was a bit nervous. However, now I see I was anxious for no reason. Good job."

I nodded with a smug grin.

*Knock knock*

We both froze.

Her face twitched, "Did that come from the box…?"

I chuckled lightly, "Just ignore it."

*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*

I threw open the cover, "WHAT?!"

Suddenly, a book jumped out of the box with silverware and pens for arms and legs. We watched in horror as a skeleton face suddenly appeared on the cover and looked around the room. It suddenly charged at the students as if to stab them with its forked arms.

"AHHH! IT'S ATTACKING US!"

I let out a forced laugh, "Oops. They do say that a great artist isn't born overnight. Looks like I still have room to improve. I guess I will just try again~"

The teacher glared at me, "Get out."

The Headmaster stared at me, "...Again?"

I pouted, "This time it wasn't on purpose…"

He let out a sigh, "The teachers are already hesitant about having you in their class… Now we have an inanimate object running around the Academy trying to stab people with a fork."

I scratched my head, "Ah… I didn't think it would be so good at evading capture."

"Either way, the teacher doesn't want you in the class anymore." He leaned back with a frosty look, "Which class do you want now? Potions or Combat class?"

Do I want to watch Felix cry?

Or do I want to be pestered?

I sighed, "I guess potions class."

At least that is still magic-related.
