chapter16 besties

so far so good Grace and Trevor relationship has been...thriving. grace did notice that Trevor can be a bit 'pushy' about his opinions and has a very weird traveling schedule but, he was also smart, funny and a good conversationalist. what more could she possibly want

'Lucas' a thought popped in her head

she shaked her head, she tried her hardest and had almost successfully banished Lucas Lin out of her mind, 'almost successfully' kind of means feeling guilty after every date with Trevor, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was cheating on Lucas which was ridiculous because they were never together

Grace sighed as she finished the last if her work for the day, preparing to go home.

her phone began to ring

" if you are happy and you know clap your hands" her bored stepsister pranked her by changing her ringtone a few days ago, it was funny until she forgot to turn off her phone during a meeting and Trevor called her.

grace sighed at the memory and picked up the call

"hello?"

"yo. grace". grace checked the caller's ID and saw her best friend's name Maya xin, her sour mood lightened. she hadn't talked to Maya in quiet a while

"its been a while Maya"

"well PhD exams are no joke and if they are, they are not funny"

Grace smiled at a friends behavior, she knew that despite Maya's whining and complaining that, she was really proud of herself for bagging that PhD scholarship. Maya comes from a prestigious family of doctors with their own private practice and with her elder brother already managing the hospital, Maya was told all her life that she was going to end up as some rich guy's trophy wife. grace was really excited for her friend for choosing her own path by deciding to study architecture and not medicine like her parents wanted her to and having a PhD in architecture at the age of twenty six is no small feet. she couldn't wait for Maya to come back so they can rub their achievements in peoples faces. #friendship goals

"since your exams are over that means you are coming back. right?" grace couldn't hide her excitement which was mirrored by the girl over the phone. they may pretend that they just tolerated each others but in truth, they were besties, partners in crime, birds of the sane feathers.

"yeah , I'll be back in two days"

"that's awesome"

"anyways....i didn't want to tell you about this since you said you were dating some guy, but I know you must have dumped him by now -"

"what?" grace interrupted "I told you about Trevor two weeks ago"

"I know, I'm about a week late -"

"again, what?, I told you that I'm serious about this one, I'm even taking him as my date to my dad's and Ivory's anniversary party"

"I thought you were just joking, besides isn't Trevor your step sister's boyfriend, I thought you guys called truce"

"no!" grace face palmed, she was already feeling frustrated with the conversation "Ethan Long is Anna's husband and Trevor is my..... boyfriend"

"what about Lucas"

"what about him" grace seriously wanted this conversation to end at this point

"what do you mean by what about him, you have been crushing on the guy since forever, you can't just decide to move on from something like that"

" I can and I have" grace deadpanned

she heard her friend sigh she could even imagine her facepalming "whatever, can I at least tell you my gossip"

"sure"

"do you remember Jasmine" Maya asked

"who?"

"miss high pitch, bitch pitch, dial tone?"

"oh" Grace said in recognition "high and pitchy from uni?"

"yeah that one, she is here for her Masters degree or at least that's what she might be here for"

"so what about her"

"well...." Maya hesitated "she is here telling who ever cares to listen how much Lucas loves her and the worst part of that she is clearly lying"

"I've moved on Maya, I don't care" Grace lied clenching and unclenching her fist

"uhm - hmn" Maya was not buying it either "whatever, tell me more about this Trevor guy that is trying to steal little miss Grace's heart"

they both talked and gossiped about other things and other people, making plans and chatting, they spent so much time talking that by the time grace was bidding her friend goodbye, she was at home finishing her nightly routine

after bidding Maya good night, grace layed on

her bed feeling guilty and angry, she was feeling guilty for feeling angry about Lucas love life when she is presently with Trevor and she felt even more guilty when she read Trevor's goodnight text.
