Breakfast (2)

However, before she could even enjoy two bites from the long-awaited food, she heard a high-pitched girl's voice suddenly speak, "Brother, where did you get that girl from?"

Everyone at the dining table looked up again, their eyes landing on Daphne or Lucifer, as they were sitting. . . on top of each other.

Daphne looked towards the voice, and noticed that it was the girl who had been glaring at her earlier. She frowned slightly, not seeing any resemblance from her with Lucifer. She was probably one of his younger sisters born from one of the mistresses.

Lucifer swallowed his food slowly, then looking up with an entertained smile, "Why do you ask, Calindra? You want a person too? I'm afraid the place I got my girl from does not offer boys. . . But I can always ask for you."

Obviously, that was not what Calindra Black meant, and at once, her face reddened in embarrassment and anger, "I -"

"Brother, did you get that girl from the Brothel?" Calindra asked, frowning as she glared at the girl sitting on her brother's lap.

"Yes, and as you know, I don't think the Brothel offers boys." Lucifer said with a grin as he continued to eat his food. Ignoring her, Daphne also began eating her bread again, wondering what this girl was trying to get at.

"Brother, how can you bring a girl from the Brothel home into the Black manor? If news of this spreads out, everyone will be making fun of you and the Black family!" The girl complained, revealing her true intention.

Daphne paused for a second, raising one eyebrow as she looked at the girl again, a woman's natural instinct telling her that something was off. Why did his sister dislike her for no reason?

Lucifer stopped eating, the charming smile on his face disappearing as he looked up at his sister, "And who are you to question my decisions?"

The girl frowned unhappily and other people in the room also paused as they noticed this conversation was going in a bad direction. Calindra's mother, Cerelia, scowled when she heard Lucifer's words, "Lucifer, she is your sister. Plus, she is right. It isn't fit for a girl from the Brothel to be in the Black manor."

Daphne looked around, noticing how many people at the table were staring at her with expressions filled with either confusion, disgust, or a mixture of both, and she merely continued to eat, watching the drama from afar. It didn't have much to do with her anyway, right? Rather than worry about all this nonsense, she should enjoy this normal human food while she can!

"What isn't fit about it? Would anyone dare say anything about me?" Lucifer scanned the room, his cold eyes landing on each person, who looked down right away after exchanging glances with their eldest brother.

Hearing this, Cerelia, Calindra, and Zagon all frowned, but they had no words to say to that. Young master Lucifer Black was a figure everyone in Healeh looked up to - for men, they wanted to be him, for women, they wanted to be with him.

However, at the same time, he was also a figure everyone feared. The young devil of the powerful Black family, known to hate everyone, especially humans, and didn't regard anyone as important - meaning, their lives were merely little sticks he could crush in his fingers whenever he wanted to.

"But -" Calindra tried to argue again, but Lucifer immediately looked towards her, and she shut up right away, her teeth clenching together in fear and anger. She admired her brother greatly, but. . . he could be scary at times.

From his lap, Daphne could not see what Lucifer looked like at the moment, and she wondered why everyone suddenly started eating again one by one. Well, devils certainly did change quickly!

"Let's -" Zagon Black spoke, drawing the conversation away from the topic of the girl again, but Lucifer interrupted him right away.

"It seems like no one listened to what I said yesterday. She is my person, my woman now, and I don't want to hear anyone questioning my decisions or my belongings. Understand?" Lucifer's voice was light and soft, but something about his tone silenced the entire room as no one dared to speak and listened intently.

As he spoke, he grabbed onto his knife, slicing the long piece of bacon on his plate into small pieces, the ear piercing sound of the metal knife scraping against the porcelain plate making everyone flinch.

Even Daphne, who had just finished her slice of bread, felt a cold air surround her as she shivered, slouching down slightly.

No one replied to his question, and he didn't care for their answer, as long as they kept his words in mind. After he finished slicing the bacon, he stabbed his fork into one and held it up to Daphne's mouth, who ate it without a second word.

Calindra had her head down but she watched this from the corner of her eyes, and she balled up her fists under the table.

The room was silent for several seconds, and Zagon Black frowned at his eldest son, his eyes narrowing as he looked at Lucifer. Then, he cleared his throat as he began speaking again, as if nothing had just happened, "The next Sevil meeting is happening soon, in one week. Lucifer, start preparing for it."

Lucifer nodded, then there was the sound of utensils dropping onto the table as from the other side of the table, Doyle Black stood up, "Father, can I attend too?"
