What Works… 20C

Raina found comfort lying in bed listening to music. She'd left her dad, uncle and brother in the living room and shut herself in her room doing the one thing that kept her from spiraling. After hours of music and reading and staring at the pattern on the ceiling, she was thirsty. She got out of bed and headed for the kitchen. Patting down her sandy blonde hair that was much darker than her brother's, it was almost bordering on brunette.

Halfway down the stairs, she heard deep voices and laughter. An hour if not more earlier, her dad had come to say good night. So had Travis. With talks of leaving early so it was unlikely that it would be them. Less than surprising, all three boys where gathering food into plates in their hands. They looked like starving thieves. It was refreshing. Almost funny. She forced her laughter down and cleared her throat. All three turned to her.

"Hey." Tom greeted. "Thought you were asleep."
