She went back to her room, laid on her bed, looking helplessly at the ceiling and ten minutes later, she remembered that it’s the third day. Why did it take her so long to remember? Her mind clouded with Trip to the point of her forgetting something so important. She rolled over on her stomach, reaching out to her nightstand and snatching up her phone. Seconds later, it was ringing and she hadn’t changed positions. “Yeah?” Shane’s voice came through.

“Hey. What’s up?”

“Sorry Peggy, I’m not in the mood. Can we do this some other time?” He sounded tired, irritable and uninterested.

“No.” Her forehead creased. “You picked up, you can spare me a few minutes.”

A sigh. “Peggy, I don’t-“

“Please. I need you.”

Another sigh. “What’s wrong?” By the time she was done talking, he had chuckled three different times. “Did you really think mom would understand? She’s like Tanner. No one rejects them.”

“You’ve been rejected?”
