Peggy and Tanner were at the dining table for dinner when Shane returned. “What did Marvin want?” Tanner asked before Peggy could, both no longer at the dinning table. “Did he really say he wants to know the house so he can beat me up if I break Lacey’s heart?”
“Yes.” Shane said with a sigh.
“See, I told you. You’re giving me your chicken.” Peggy declared triumphantly.
“Fine whatever.” Tanner turned away, back to dinner.
“You better not eat it!”
“You’re having dinner without me?” Shane looked betrayed, coming up to her.
“We didn’t know when you’ll be back. Where did you go anyway?”
“Drinking.”
“Drinking? In the afternoon?” Shane shrugged. “Was that all? What did you talk about?” They walked back to the dinning room.
“He just repeated what he told you.”
She assessed him, besides looking betrayed over dinner, he felt off. “Are you okay?”
“I’m okay.” He rubbed his forehead. “He said he’ll come pick me up again tomorrow, I’m not looking forward to it.”
