It is upsetting, but she still sees them as family. She does not want to be the reason for them to fall apart like this. Especially now that she knew what was driving Amanda's anger towards her. 


Her real family killed Patrick's father and grandparents. She knew that the child should not pay for their parent's sin, but she still had a guilty conscience and wanted to make up for all the grief Amanda had experienced. She somehow feels responsible for what happened to them. Even though she is completely innocent.
