Chapter 6

The smell got worse just as I entered the lobby of the building. The ghouls seemed to occupy another room. Probably large enough for them to spill stench like this. I walked carefully as I entered opened the doors to check. I know they sleep during the day but how deep is their sleep? I have no idea. They might even sleep like humans or even like me, how I used to sleep before all of this happened. Even a thousand cannon fires couldn't wake me up back then. Now, I would be up and awake even with a slight sound. It's weird how the situation changes you. I even slept differently last night. I am not used to this lightweight body. It was so comfortable to sleep; I cannot describe it in words.

I checked two doors, and both of them were small rooms used for utilities. There are two more gates left. One of them had two large doors. That must be it. I went forward and checked the other room and confirmed that it was the washroom for both men and women. Then opened the large doors.

A horrible smell hit my nose. I should have gone back to grab something to cover my nose. But now I have to get it done as soon as possible. The way I fought that purple demon raised my confidence. But I didn't forget that I was under the temporary boost of my fat being burned out. I am not that strong anymore.

The room was filled with Ghouls. They were on the ground sleeping. No movements. At least that's what you can see at first. Unless you observe the ghouls during asleep, you would guess they don't even breathe. But they do. They do it very slowly when they sleep. I don't know if this was a sign of their light or deep sleep.

The ground was covered with flesh and dirt. It honestly looked like hell. Gladly I didn't bring the girls. Even I cannot take this scene. I looked at the iron pipe in my hand and sighed. This thing will not last long. How many can I kill with it? Ten? Twenty? Not more than twenty. I will have to find a replacement for this weapon.

I went slowly towards the nearest ghoul. I was as silent as anyone possibly could get, but before reaching the ghoul, it shook its body and opened its eyes. Shit!

I didn't waste any time as I hit its neck with a swing of the iron pipe. The pipe was quite reliable, I thought it would be bent, but it didn't. The ghoul went down with that one hit, but it sent out a loud screeching sound, and all the ghouls in the room opened their eyes and continued the screeching sound. My ears started to hurt.

I moved as fast as I could to hit ghouls one after another, but soon they were out of their surprised mode and were coming at me with their long claws and sharp teeth. Within a few minutes, I managed to kill about ten of them.

"Program E192 has leveled up: New stats,

Name: Jurian Forst,

Age: 17.

Level: 7 (0/140)

Rank: Beginner.

Class: Undefined.

Mana: 105.

Kills: 33."

These were the basic stats. The system isn't showing me the detailed stuff that it showed last time. Maybe due to the temporary boost, it was like that. Whatever, I looked at the iron pipe; it was severely bent. I cannot go like this. I threw away the pipe and kicked the ghoul that was near me. The kick felt pretty hard on my part, but the ghoul didn't budge even an inch. I went forward and punched it as hard as I could in the face as it was coming with a bite. It staggered back but had no significant damage.

Damn it. I am stronger than before, but I can't kill these low-level monsters with bare hands. I looked around for something else to kill them with and jumped away to dodge another ghoul that came at me from my left. I can see a box of some sort at the further back of the room. I saw similar boxes at my friend's house. His mother kept her violin in that box. If there is a violin in this one, I can still hit a few of these ghouls.

I reached the box easier than expected. The ghouls were much slower than they were in the night. The small amount of daylight coming from the cracks on the windows made them slightly dizzy. That was all some unexpected advantage for me. I looked at the box, and it was a display case. And looking at what it was displaying, my heart went racing. A Japanese katana. Someone loved showing this off. The handle looked premium. I kicked the glass, broke it, then grabbed the sword and brought it out.

I never even grabbed a sword before, but I have seen far too many movies and played many games where this kind of sword was used. I can probably do more than what that iron pipe did.

I jumped back as I brought the blade out of its sheath. Nice! Such a beauty. I wanted to kiss the blade there, but these nasty things needed to be put down. I grabbed the sword with both hands; there was enough room in the handle for both hands. Then swing it towards the neck of the ghoul that came at me with his jaws fully open. The head was sliced off cleanly from the body.

Finally, after a long time, I had a satisfied smile on my face. It took me about twenty more minutes to clear the room. I suspect there are more ghouls in the building. Otherwise, there were so many people on the roof; if there were only these few, they could have killed them long ago.

After resting, I went on the upper floors and cleared them with my new weapon. I love this thing. It took about two hours to kill all these ghouls.

I have reached level ten, but the experience requirements for the next level rose significantly—I kind of feel like being cheated. The first few levels were easy.

"Show detail stats." I found that this command can let me show all my detailed stats.

"Name: Jurian Forst,

Age: 17.

Level: 10 (1180/2000)

Rank: Apprentice.

Class: Undefined.

Mana: 150.

Kills: 197.

Attributes:

Strength: 25.

Agility: 17.

Weapon mastery (Sword): 28.

Mana recovery: 30.

Vitality: 300.

Vitality: 30."

Vitality seems to be related to how many attacks I can take. I have tested it on the final floor. I stood there and let the ghouls attack. It hurt like hell after each of their attacks, but I wasn't getting injured until vitality went down more than fifty percent. I then stopped getting hit and killed them all instead.

Great, now it's time to get back. I got stronger than before, so I have more confidence in taking care of things regarding the people on the roof.
