We continued to kill the creatures, but they seemed endless as they were coming from all directions and not stopping. I can feel myself being tired.
"There's something wrong with this swamp!" I looked at Lucy.
"Yes, there seems to be some kind of powerful demon here." She was swinging her sword and replied. "Look at the water there!" She gestured, using her eye in the direction behind me.
I turned back to look. The water in the swamp was all the same; the light didn't get in and didn't get out. So it was hard to see anything below it, but the place Lucy pointed to had a darker shade; it felt as if the water there were deep.
I dropped the pole and picked up a large piece of concrete with both of my hands, with algae growing all over it after being underwater. Then I mustered all of my strength to throw the piece into the place with a darker shade of water. It fell in there with a massive splash, making me smile. I kept looking at the spot where Lucy and Regis both kept killing.
Nothing happened even after the waves were almost settled themselves. I turned back to grab the pole, and suddenly there was a roar. It kind of felt like a siren going off from thousands of speakers. The sound almost cracked my eardrums before it stopped.
I turned back and, at the same time, felt immense fear. My body wanted to lean forward before turning back. I listened to the instinct. And glad I did, a wave of water just flew past me. Yes, water, but it was sliced in half when it hit the only tall electric pole. Boy, I listened to the instinct. Due to my other senses being advanced, my sixth sense got a serious upgrade.
"Nicely dodged!" Lucy said as I soon got to her side. I just nodded and didn't say anything. "It's not a demon; it's another mutant!"
"What's a mutant?" The thing we were looking at is bizarre. It looked like a massive frog as if summoned using the summoning Jutsu. But if it was so, there should have been one person on top of the frog, but here, I can see at least five humanoid creatures attached on top of the from. They are kneeling with their hands on top of the frog; hands and feet seem to be planted permanently as if someone glued them together. The humanoid creatures had algae all over their body. They can live under the water as it seems. Looking closely, none of them had any eyes, but holes depicted nose and mouth. The mouth had a series of sharp teeth clattering with each other. I can hear the sound from here. Hideous to look at.
Before Lucy could answer, the humanoid creatures on top of the frog opened their mouth and what came out wasn't a scream I had ever heard or wanted to hear again, the siren from before. So they were the ones responsible for the ear pain.
"Regis!" I shouted. "Shoot those things head!" I needn't say anything; right before I screamed, I saw one of the humanoid creatures' heads blow up. Then another. Then another. Until all of them was of their body and the siren stopped.
For some reason, the alligator-like creatures were not attacking. They were either waiting for their leader, if this was their leader or just steered clear of the area, afraid of the frog mutant.
"A mutant is the creature that has been in this world but converted by the purple mist to be something else entirely!" Lucy said right before the frog mutant opened its mouth and shot another wave of water slicer. Whatever it hit after we dodged isn't our concern as Regis and others were to our side and not behind.
"Then what about demons?" I asked.
"Demons are the creatures who came from the other side of that gate!" Lucy replied. She raised her sword and went forward at an astonishing speed. She was hacking down on top of the frog's head, sending it into the water. Another scream followed; looking at the top of the frog, the leaders of those humanoid creatures had regrown completely.
"What the hell!"
I was sure that my ears were bleeding at this point. Damn it all. I sucked as hard as I could.
"System command, Convert all available energy sources to Mana!"
"Commencing with the command. The full force of conversion will last for sixty seconds!"
One minute.
"Come on!" After taking two or three cumbersome steps, I lifted the pole and jumped. I brought down the end of the pole as hard as I could swing.
"Thud!" I hit it perfectly, but it swung its head right after that, sending me flying. Landing nearly twenty meters away from it, I almost fainted from the shock of hitting the ground a few inches beneath the water. I could feel my body getting hot with so much energy and needed to expend it as soon as possible. I dropped the pole, but that didn't stop me. Thinking about it now, I was lost for a moment. I could hear the music of some kind of instrument with strings. Maybe a guitar, but that's it. I ran again towards the from, growled like an animal, and punched it. As far as I could remember, I hit it a few more times before grabbing one of its legs and then smashing its body to the pavement a few inches under the water nearby. The music didn't stop, but I almost lost consciousness. From the corner of my eyes, I could see that Dana was running toward me before hitting the water. Lucy was looking in another direction with apparent hostility in her eyes. Maybe another enemy.
"The demon came!
The demon left!
The demon took me away!
The demon took me away!
As the demon's heart!
As the demons love!
As the demons world!
The demon took me away!
The demon took me away!
.....
.....
When the world sleeps,
The demon returns,
The heavenly glow,
And the time turns slow,
The heart of heaven!
The heart of the demon!
To the world anew!
Heavenly demon invades the heart!
oh, the Heavenly demon invades the heart!"
The music continued as I closed my eyes. A song that I never knew rang in my ear over and over. Ohh, how peaceful it is. I went to sleep.
